Pretty much yeah. I watched a BBC documentary on You Tube recently (although it is 6 or 7 years old) and it was all about that benefit cap the Tories have implemented. Because people's combined in the hand and housing benefits have been capped many people have been forced to seek out cheaper accommodation because over the years the rents in their areas have slowly but surely gotten ridiculous.

It was quite horrible to see families who have lived in their areas for years (decades for some) being forced from their homes. People being moved away several miles so they are miles from their friends and families. Children being moved from their schools and losing all their friends. One young woman who worked part time lived close to her parents can't work now because she's now too far away to leave her kids with her parents. To live within about an 8 mile radius of the Shard you need at least a £50,000 salary.

Maybe virtue signalling * like Lily Allen and Sir Bob could take in a few of the families from the fire since they have plenty room in their mansions.

Ignoring the current issue of the horrific lose of life the short answer is yes.

Why should the benefits system pay more for someone's rent than the average person takes home in a month?

£1700-2100 per month rent plus all the other top ups. You'd need to be in a very well paid job to pay for the same.

Move out of London and they could have a far higher standard of living without costing the tax payer so much.

A £50,000 salary would struggle to live in these flats.

Without paying a pension or saving £50,000 takes about £3000 home per month. Around £2000 private rent in these flats and then all the bills they wouldn't be left with much to pay for everything else.

London is an elitist place. There's no point even entering the place unless you earn mega bucks.

I do enjoy London, but I'm also happy to leave. I couldn't stay there.

On the flip side, if you were a working class worker staying in Finsbury Park 10 years ago, you're now a millionaire.

I pay £600 a month to live in a house minutes from the tube station, with great transport links to all over the city. There are some very affordable parts of London.

Are you sharing? For that price, anywhere in London is assume your in a shared accommodation, if your not please tell the name of where you rented from and who haha.

But seriously this thing about living in London and being unemployed is total nonsense might as well send all the handicapped people who can't work out of London as well, how about the gov actually regulate private renting market.

London can be affordable for lot of people but as has been the case for decades, central London is out of the price range for your average earner.

£600 sounded a bargain for a minute. £2400 per month for a house is hardly affordable to most.

I'd rather stay somewhere where I could have my own space and not live with 3 other people.

    * disgusting post.
Tory thinking at its best. And this is why, thanks to wanks thinking like you London is *.
It's not the poor or working class peoples fault living there they can't afford to pay the rent it's the millionaire arseholes who are charging extortionate prices for a * hovel.
They are forcing the poor and working class people out of the city and into slums.
London will look like Sao Paolo or Rio within a generation - shiny millionaires playground in the middle with slums surrounding it.

There's nothing disgusting about it. Why do so many people even want to join the rat race? It's them forcing rents up as they are willing to accept a poor standard of living just to stay in London. Many of the people housed in London have no links to London. It's not them being driven from their hometown they've moved in and added to the issues.

My original point was if you're not paying your way then the benefits system shouldn't be paying extortionate rents. There isn't really anything unfair about that.

You could argue that last part already. Edge of East London Leyton/Walthamstow. North. Tottenham/Edmonton. West. Acton/Wembley. South. Lewisham..

It's going that way for sure..

Sometimes you just need to know where to go in order not to spend not too much money. Khan's Indian restaurant in Westbourne Grove and The Bayswater Arms pub are reasonable places. Very good value for money. Both in the Bayswater/Queensway area.
