There probably is some element of truth when people say black people are idiots. But then again, I would say most cockneys I've ever met are idiots too. In fact, most Glasgwegians are idiots. Things have got out of control.

...but you know what will happen now. All the feckin' do gooders will complain about 'heavy handed police' and their civil rights being denied because the polis are shooting at them with rubber bellets. Then some cop will get the sack for shooting a rioter in the leg [who will turn out to be a life long criminal] he'll sue the Met' and get a fortune in tv/magazine rights and become a feckin' celebrity.
Thank * I'm no the turnkey doon there!........:56:

Cant jsut generalise it and say its "blacks" that are doing this and agreeing with it. i saw many races last night rioting. As much i dont agree with the looting and burning of your city. This isnt just thugs, theres obvioulsy some tensions in the communitys in london and the greater area that have been building up for a while.

TimMalloyBhoy, pipe down with the racist sweeping generalisations. Their colour has absolutely nothing to do with it. Nothing. Not to mention the amount of white people taking part in this.

HolyPope, would you be saying the same if this was happening in Belfast?! Either way, I'd imagine a lot less people would be suggesting rubber bullets, which were used in the 70's.

Totally agree with your first point :50: To add to it I think people need to remember its socio-economic reasons that mean that a lot of people of ethnic origins live in poorer areas, not their skin colour.

With reference to the comparison to the troubles I think the difference is we all agree ( I think) that the people rioting there had good reason. Not many can really condone what is happening in London in the same way.

Water cannons and rubber bullets were used against protesters in the North, who were fighting against what they saw as the occupation of their country by a foreign army. They had years of oppression and poverty.

This is in no way the same.

I agree Rachael, of course its not the same. But my point is firing rubber bullets at anyone is wrong, we can't have double standards here.

He didn't fire a shot but he was in possession of a gun that had bullets in the chamber. If he pointed and raised that at police, do they not have the right to defend themselves?

And fair comment Jezz, I just think its totally different and what is happening is sickening.

yeah and also the to quote
"The IPCC says the Forensic Science Service has also confirmed that the bullet lodged in a police radio was police issue and consistent with being fired from a police gun."

So seems he never fired a shot, and how a police issue bullet got fired into a police radio you can only speculate until we get told more.

The folk who live in these areas of London feel they have had years of oppression and poverty. I'm not sure we're in any position to tell them otherwise.

And one of the first reasons they give for their hatred of the police is a "random" stop-&-search policy, which actually targets a particular sector of the community.

I'd say there were a number of parallels.

CO19 training takes place in a special facility near Gravesend in Kent. All trainees must achieve a minimum of 90% accuracy with firearms. As CO19 are a police force rather than military one, the emphasis in training is always on the minimal use of force and the legal implications of every act. As with other UK armed police forces, CO19 adhere to rules of engagement based on guidelines from the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo). These specify that they:

Must identify themselves and declare intent to fire (unless this risks serious harm).
Should aim for the biggest target (the torso) to incapacitate and for greater accuracy.
Should reassess the situation after each shot.

It was a second shot that went through the victims arm and lodged in the radio of a police officer. The first bullet struck the victims chest.

then attack the police, police stations, council properties do not attack your own area, loot electronics stores and attack innocent people.

Rubber bullets should not be used, these things kill, they have * accuracy and an innocent person could end up on the wrong end of one of these.
