What we needed to do in this match was just play old fashioned, British style football. None of this possession based stuff with 'inside forwards'. Get two strikers up front, have two wingers playing on their natural sides, push the full backs on to support them and get as many crosses into the box as possible. The best way to make the pitch a non factor is to get the ball forward quickly and keep it in the air. It might not be super pretty to watch and it might not be Brendan Rodgers 'way' but on a pitch like that it is not a bad gameplan.

That pitch was a disgrace and it's beyond me how UEFA can deem it fit for qualifiers but not for the actual tournament. Even through my * internet stream I could see the black rubber pellets flying everywhere during the game.

Rodgers team selection today was disappointing but even more disappointing were his comments after the game. There shouldn't be no sugar coating this, its an utter embarrassment. No excuses whatsoever .

I actually agree with this. That pitch tonight was simply not suited to "fast", "possession" football. We used to do what you have described under Martin O'Neill and it was always effective.

Only thing is now, the few crosses we do put in are fairly poor. It's something we seriously need to work on.

Hysteria central in here. It's true that Efe needs to go but otherwise nothing was particularly worrying there IMO. I'm nit that surprised.

Our first competitive game and I believe their 3rd. We often struggle in our first game. New manager, we ALWAYS seem to struggle in a new manager's first game. They are used to that heat and we aren't. They are used to that pitch and we aren't. The biggest game in the careers of many of their players. Hit the woodwork twice. We played Efe.

I'm honestly not that surprised. We'll be fine, we'll turn it around at CP and Rodgers will get the time he needs to get his ideas across and for the players to get match fit.

Hopefully that was Efe's last game for us.

Agree with you to an extent, but I feel that a really top manager and a decent side would be able to overcome the things you've mentioned that made the game slightly uncomfortable, even allowing for the fact it was Rodgers' first game. If we can't beat a team of part timers in uncomfortable circumstances then I wonder how we'll fare against sides like Copenhagen, Legia Warsaw etc in the next two rounds, when the going gets tough.

Strachan was a top manager and look at his first game. Rogers needs time and if we go out to a Legia or Copenhagen, I'll accept that in his first season. Actually, though, I think we'll make it, I have a good feeling about this qualifying campaign.

I see Joey Barton has taken to Twitter to post his wee laughing emojis after our result. He's going to be right up there with Diouf and Novo in the pantheon of Hun players I wish would catch ebola.
