The likes of Lambert and Moyes will never come to CP while Peter Lawell and his ineffectual buddies are around.

As for the players, I don't see why they wouldn't. We don't pay the biggest wages, but we're not paupers and players like McFadden, Keane, Given, etc. have already made a fortune. :39:

The SPL is poor, but so is the MLS and it didn't stop Keane joining it. Point being, the league standard is not something a player should be unable to overcome. Some should see it as a way of improving it.

Any true Celtic supporter would jump at the chance to sign for Celtic, especially if they have already made enough money to lead a very comfortable life. That's just my opinion though.

Moneys the Catalyst in these decisions most of the time, Then you consider the goldfish bowl that is glasgow and all the crud that gets thrown your way just walking down the * street.

Pretty sure Mcgeady said the latter was his primary decision for leaving.

That's how I feel too - but let's be honest, if we were playing in the EPL, there'd be a queue a mile long. It's the league we play in that makes the move unattractive.

For a Scot who's been playing in probably the richest, highest-profile league around, moving back to Scotland to play in the SPL probably feels like coming home with your tail between your legs. Or winding down for retirement...

And in McFadden's case, the added indignity of being asked to go as a trialist - to see if you're capable of playing in the SPL! - would probably make me say * you as well.

Our league is the killer - but our obsession with trials does us no favours either.

To be fair to McFadden and Celtic,1. We wanted him to come up for what was basically a trial which Is a poor showing on our part for a guy with a decent background yet we couldn't give lunjberg a contract quick enough and 2.I don't think we actually made an offer which means technically he never snubbed us

Footballers have a window of 20 years at absolute maximum to make the money to sustain themselves and their family, at the level of comfort they have become accustomed to, for the rest of their lives.

Should they show disregard to their own families by accepting a lower offer for romantic reasons?

You'll get guys like Roy and Robbie Keane, Neil Lennon and Martin O'Neill that will always have the ambition to be involved at Celtic and they'll make it happen but apart from that you cannot judge a professional footballer for choosing the higher standard and better paid level of football.

Also half these guys are settled in England - their family will be happy and content, kids in schools, have friends down there. What would motivate them to come up here, uproot their families from what they know, for a 1/3rd the wage to play Inverness away on a December night?

Your definitely right, our obsession with trials is a farce.

You have to make a player feel wanted.

As a few have said already its the league we play in, money is also a factor but celtic don't offer crap wages, 20-30k a week is still * good money lets not forget, its just celtic will offer 25k a week and everton will offer 40k a week and most of the time the player will take the 40k a week.

I don't think McFadden was officially offered a contract so he didn't officially snub us, just everton offered him a contract first and he took it, this trial farce that seems to be happening at celtic is becoming ridiculous, i understand trials for relatively unkown players but for established experienced internationals you either want the guy or you don't.

If you have mixed feelings then it could turn out to be a disaster, we didn't trial wanyama did we when we bought him and he was scouted, why the * are you asking mcfadden to come up for a trial, its insulting to established experienced players to be honest.

Its not as if bringing them on trial has helped weed out the bad singings either, just look at Freddie last season.

is it really asking much for a player/manager who supported the club to give 2-3 years of service to the institution that made them love football in the first place?

and then go do your thing elsewhere if you like? at least say ' i tried'

mcfadden went on trial at wolves he's too good for Celtic for a trial? he's had a serious of carear threatening injuries and has lost most of his pace.

interesting to see his agent didnt close the door totally. no doubt he'll
    want a retirement fund

respect to the Celtic fans who play for the club despite the league. we all know the league's *, but at least the players get paid thousands a week for their 'pain'

I think it was billy mcneil who said, if your asked to play for a club like Celtic and it takes you longer than 2 seconds to answer, you should be shown the door. The fact is, we used to be a massive club with world wide respect but now even unheard of do-nuts will reject us for a move to a diddy team that will never win nothing.

I would choose Celtic over Barca if I was footballer tbh.

I know it is easy to say that but I genuinely feel that way.

Maybe all the * that Lenny went through last season and all the sectarian bile would prevent people wanting to bring their families into that enviroment.

The EPL is one of, if not the biggest, richest league in the world, a lot better to have on your CV.

Also, dont believe everything you read in the papers.
