Celtic are close to an agreement to sell unsettled Israeli winger Liel Abada to MLS side Charlotte FC for £8million.


And the deal could be worth as much as £11m if add-ons and bonus payments come to fruition.


Mail Sport revealed last month that there was interest from MLS clubs in Abada, who has been placed under sustained pressure from his homeland over the pro-Palestinian stance of sections of the Celtic support.


Missing from Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts, the 22-year-old played his last game for the club in a 2-1 win over Hibs at Easter Road on February 7.


A loan target in the January window for clubs in England, Germany and France , manager Brendan Rodgers hoped to keep hold of the Israel international for the second half of the season


After a series of discussions with the winger, however, Rodgers acknowledged that the situation had been ‘challenging’ for the player - and left him out of the team after admitting he was not in the right frame of mind to play.

With the European transfer windows closing last month, MLS offered an escape route for Abada.

MLS teams can request the international transfer certificate of players under contract in another country until Tuesday, April 23.

While the final details have yet to be conclusively tied up, Abada looks likely to fly to the United States to undergo a medical in the coming days.

It’s not £8m+ add ons it’s $8m which is just over £6.8m+ add ons but probably £8m total.
Anyway, get rid of him asap.

 

Good deal for us if the £8 - 10 million is anywhere close. Guessing part of that is as there is no way there will be a sell on clause given the circumstances.

I was sympathetic at first,but increasingly disliked him,the * definitely went to try and get a section of the fans banned.The sooner he’s out of the club the better.

 

I imagine Stephen McGowan is aware of the concept of currency conversion. If he's saying it's 8 million it's 8 million.

Would've taken anything over 7m in the summer FFS. If it meant it was being reinvested of course.

£8m is an incredible deal, given the circumstances. Throw in some add ons and getting nearly £11m all in for him? I’d probably have been happy enough with that had their not been such a unique situation regarding him round the club.

£6.4m going straight into our coffers. The club needs to spend that in the summer. Wouldn’t be against using it for Miller and the boy from Killie. Need to be hoovering up these talented boys coming through in Scotland.

 

All considered, a decent deal if this goes through


Reckon he's a quality player with a bit more developing to do and truly think if we didn't have injuries and Israeli stuff happening, he'd be a tens of millions player for us.

But things are what they are.
