Be good for him to get gametime but St. Johnstone ......... don't think that's the right club for him this season. They're rank rotten.

They'd why it would be good, get him battling, plus they can play food football if they pick up, McCann last year was their star, if Shaw can take on some of that it'll be brilliant experience fir coming back here

Former Sheffield Wednesday youngster, Liam Shaw, looks set to spend the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan with Motherwell from Celtic.

Shaw joined the Bhoys over the summer as a free transfer after his contract with the Owls came to an end, with the 20-year-old being joined by fellow former Wednesday player, Osaze Urhoghide, in Glasgow.

For both players game time has been hard to come by, however young Shaw impressed on his debut against Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League last month, and also went on to get his first Scottish Premiership runout against St Mirren.

Shaw has also been linked with a move to St Johnstone this month after the January transfer window opened, but it’s now understood that Motherwell are leading the loan race with a deal almost sealed to snap up the talented midfielder for the second half of the campaign

Motherwell are currently fourth in the table after 20 games, and Shaw will no doubt be looking forward to the opportunity of playing regular football in Scotland should the deal be finalised.

Ange Postecoglou completed the signing of three new players last week, with Daizen Maeda from Yokohama F. Marinos, Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka and Reo Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale all set to be registered this month.

Any top flight team would be decent for him.

Motherwell have snapped up Liam Shaw on loan until the end of the season.

The Celtic midfielder put the finishing touches to his Fir Park deal this afternoon.

Shaw, 20, was also being chased by Well's Premiership rivals St Johnstone.

But Steelmen boss Graham Alexander made his move and has quickly thrashed out a deal in the last 24 hours.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man has been on the fringes of the Celtic squad under Ange Postecoglou.

Shaw only arrived in the summer and the Hoops boss is keen to get him more game time.

He met his new team-mates on Thursday and is in line for a Motherwell debut against Ross County on January 18.

    Brilliant move for him.
Keeps him in the league and hopefully plays most games.

Experience he needs if he's to chase a position with us next season.

Motherwell should be a far better move than St Johnstone.

Will benefit from this like Ajer did. Think Shaw will be an important player for us in the coming seasons. Same with Urhoghide.

Decent move, Motherwell do at least try to attack which St Johnstone don't do.

He'll still have a bit if breaking in to get Inti their midfield, at Johnstone he'd be more straight into at them but team wise Motherwell will be closer to us than SJ

Meanwhile, Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw has completed his loan move to Motherwell.

The 20-year-old was also being chased by St Johnstone but will spend the rest of the season at Fir Park.

Boss Graham Alexander said: “We are happy with the squad but we have players going out of contract soon and we are guarding against something happening with one of those guys.

“We have also had the Covid issue. We had seven players missing and four members of staff in the last week.

“We have had to look at the squad and make sure that we have the sufficient numbers to see us through.

“We see Liam as fitting in. He is motivated and it was a quick deal with Celtic, so we appreciate that and he’s ready.

“I think midfield is where he is best suited. We have brought him here to compete with the others at the club.

“I didn’t see him at Sheffield Wednesday but I’ve seen him up here a couple of times.

“We have done our analysis on him and I think he is really suited to how we play.

“Celtic obviously see him getting in their first team at some point and they value him highly.

“But they see an opportunity for him to compete and get in our first team.

“We have made it clear that is what he has to do. No one is guaranteed to play.”

Good move for him and Motherwell, think he’ll get good game time for them too as he seems talented and driven even though they do have options there
