Thought he was being written off way too soon tbh, he looks better as a centre half but I’d still prefer him defensively at LB to Bernabei. He’s 24 but was a late comer to full time professional football so there is still plenty of scope for development. That said, maybe the best thing for that development is one more season playing week in week out elsewhere.

We’d be doing extremely well to have a player that was much better as a fourth choice centre half. Players any better than Scales won’t settle for being fourth choice.

See if Scales was able to count as association or club trained I would probably keep him as fourth choice, with the caveat he would need to be happy doing that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a Championship team in England came in for him for about £1m or so. I know Aberdeen will be front runners but whether they would pay what we are looking for is another question.

I wouldn’t loan him again he isn’t that young.

Always thought there was a player there. Still young enough to go for a one year loan but maybe he can truly contribute to the cause this campaign.

    Like the look of him.

Thought he played well last night, he’ll be solid enough for the league, I’d be happy if he stayed.

But I’m not sure if he has the potential to be good enough for Europe, definitely worth giving him the time and chance to develop though.

Brendan Rodgers admits he’ll wait before making a decision on Liam Scales.

The Celtic defender spent last season at Aberdeen and Reds boss Bary Robson would like the Irishman back at Pittodrie on loan. Scales heads back to the Granite City on Sunday with his parent club as he continues to fight for a spot in Rodgers’ Hoops plans. The Celtic gaffer understands the 25-year-old is at the stage of his career where he needs to play but he will take his time as he sizes up his own set-up.

Rodgers said: “By the end of the window we’ll be in a position where we’ll know where are with the squad. I know where we need to strengthen. Liam has trained really well in pre-season. I’d seen hardly anything of him so I wanted to take the chance to see him. It’s all about timing, going out to play. There’s obviously benefits to staying here and working with an intense group. Ultimately, it’s about game time as well for players.

Liam turned 25 the other day and he will have the mindset I’m sure at that age of wanting to play. But his attitude has been first-class and he has qualities as a player. We’ll just assess where it’s at over the coming weeks.

He did look good in pre-season, but I'd be shocked if he wanted to stay as 4th choice when his chance of becoming first are next to zero.

Was he not bought as a LB? Any chance he'd be kept as cover for that position with Bernabei not looking like an answer.

We’ll likely sell him to sheep in next week or so, imagine we didn’t want to sell him only to face him the next week.

Maybe like the comment above quotes Aberdeen are trying to get him in on loan again to cut some costs? But assuming we only want a sale?

Still cuts out most if not all of his wages. There will be some loan fee as well like last season.

Even if we make a £300k loss from the fee we originally paid, it's a drop in the ocean for us.

It's such a small loss margin. It'd strengthen one of the huns main competitors.

I want him back at Aberdeen tbh.

I’d prefer him as back up left back currently to Berna.

Acid hypothetical test, you’re going to the * pit next weekend - who are you relying on? Scales for me all day.

    Bernabei has no future.

    Tbf neither does Scales.

I get your point though. No question about it, too.

I suspect he will be gone before the end of the month. Aberdeen want him back, we should be looking for our money back as they have had some decent sales recently.

Alternatively make a bid for Duk and throw Scales and if Vata is sticking about Vata in on loan. The one thing is they seem to want to play a 3 at the back with wing backs so not sure where Vata fits into that could he replace Duk, coming in off the left just off Miovski?

I’d have him in ahead of Taylor. It’s crazy how much a change in style can impact a players position, but I honestly think Taylor is a waste of a jersey the way Rodgers wants to play. He offers nothing in the role. Doesn’t have the pace to get to the byline or overlap going forward and is pretty weak and gets done for pace defensively, and is also small so can get targeted for crossed balls at the back post. He has a good left foot on him and is a decent enough footballer, but I think Scales has that in him as well, along with a couple of the aforementioned attributes that Taylor doesn’t.

Robson said after the game yesterday they don’t want anymore loans in just to buy.

Maybe if Aberdeen make the EL they will buy him.

They should be putting down hard cash and a 5 year contract. He’s a quality player at their level.
