He absolutely can. Starfelt was good defensively, as is Scales, and had some very dodgy moments in games.

If Starfelt was asked to be as progressive on the ball as Scales is, everyone would slaughter him. Ange system made it easier for the defenders to find a pass than it is under Rodgers. Those dodgy blind back passes gave me nightmares and I was a fan of his overall.

Starfelt was faster but that's about it.

He can't. Starfelt and CCV as a partnership barely lost a game together, and Starfelt had far less poor moments than Scales.

Disagree with the poor moments. Starfelt had plenty of dodgy moments.

Also Scales has lost just 1 of his last 40 domestic games, regardless of partner, so his record holds up.

Loved when he was squaring up to Arnautovic

He's definitely been our best player this season. Certainly most consistent.

Agreed he has played better recently but he still has nightmare passes in him.

Done well with his battle with Bowie today. Happy to take the booking, but the guy was a handful for CCV as well.

You know its been a poor start to the season when Scales is comfortably our best player.

I don't know if it's me, but I just don't get the hype with him at all. Easily rolled by some strikers, caught out of position often, cannot pass a ball 10 yards.
Effort is not in question, but we could do a helluva lot better.

The fact that he tried to get touch tight to Bowie twice within the space of 5 mins and got rolled both times was slightly alarming but generally solid again.

Thought Bowie was a handful for both Scales and CCV tbh.

Didn’t think it was his best game, but it’s another clean sheet. Least of our worries at the moment.

Scales is our best defender. Becoming just as solid as ccv. Amazing to see because of where he started. Shows what developing a player by playing them can do.

I liked the way he did it as well. It wasn’t a bravado look at me moment for the cameras. Stood his ground and showed he was no pushover and then on with the game.

Bowie uses his body well and pins the defender. He bullied Scales at one point but Scales didn’t let it affect him.

Really hope we are keeping an eye on Bowie, he is a big mobile boy with ability and could flourish under the chances we would create for him. Would give us physicality in the forward area also

Though there have been changes to the backline in the wide areas, one near-constant in the team has been Liam Scales, who has been heavily praised for his efforts alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Rodgers has seemingly recognised the Republic of Ireland international's efforts, too. "I think Liam Scales has been playing at a really, really high and consistent level," said his manager. (Celtic TV)

"He has been superb in the team, and he is someone who I can trust. I know what I am going to get in every single game from him every week."
