All over the shop in possession, out of position a lot and not looking confident. Needs taken out the picture as I think the pressure of being first pick is * him up.

May as well strap in because he is our starting CB. We ain’t shifting any of what we have and the board will not look to sign another CB

An excellent point and an excellent question.

Our good form can be reasonably expected to last as long as CCV stays fit, then all bets are off. We'll also find out what Schmeichel is really made of when he has Scales in front of him on Tuesdays.

If the other CBs really are substantially worse also, why are we knocking back offers for Welsh? I would guess he isn't that far behind Scales and the rest are way, waaaay behind those two.

The most frustrating thing is that despite defence being long identified as an area of weakness, we have basically only traded downwards in this position since 2021. CCV replaced Ajer, but since then we haven't signed a player on par with Starfelt or even Julien.

Our 2 CBs usually have as many, if not more, touches of the ball than any other player for us so you have to wonder why it seems Scales will be a guaranteed starter, at least to begin with, when his ability on the ball is poor. It's not as though he's rock-solid defensively either. I like the guy, he's a brave, honest player but we need better if we're going to improve.

Can't believe we've actually started this season with scales as first choice CB again.

He's absolutely got the heart and deserved the new deal, but he's absolutely not first team starting quality for us.
We never should be going in to opening games with Scales at the heart of defence. Knowing how we do transfers, even if we do sign another CB chances are they need time to settle/match sharp and will miss the Huns game anyway. So we likely will continue with Scales as first team CB for a number of games if not the entire season.

Again deserved his deal and he plays with everything on the line, but he simply isn't good enough.

From starfelt and CCV two years ago, to Scales being the main CB over the last 12 months is a criminal step backwards and mismanagement of the club.

Regarding knocking back offers, we should really be accepting anything for any of them.

As you say, how bad are the rest of Scales is an automatic starter, then what's the point of keeping the rest instead of taking any offer and improving the squad. Not like we need the money where we need to absolutely maximise any fee, but I get we are bloated with *. So why not accept the Welsh offer, just release Kobi and pray someone comes in for lagerbeilke.
Nawrocki I believe is injured, so who knows.
But get the other three off the bill and bring in a quality CB to play with CCV and I'll then accept another Scottish talent that's kicking about the league looking to step up as a "project".

The fact we look set on just going with the exact same backline as last season is truly shocking.

bang on, regardless about how pish we have been bringing players in, Welsh, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki, Yang, Johnston will never ever be good enough. So anything to get rid. Taylor isn’t either but we have no other left back.

    They are bad, really bad.

Like it or not, the manager trusts Scales, as he did such a good job last year when CCV was out injured, and Scales had to hold a variety of other paired centre backs together. I suppose if you don't like Scales you could always try Iwata again at CB, but I bet you some fans would still moan and groan.

What a weird thing to say.

Do you not things fans would be justified in moaning at a midfielder playing at centre half when we are as rich as we've ever been?

It shouldn't be a choice between Scales or Iwata.

Ange tried Iwaa at CB and he got physically owned by Curtis Main, who scored 2 and could have had 3 or 4.

This is what happens when you persist with a squad player, it's not even fair on Scales himself.

He's starting to get on my *.

I'm more annoyed at our board/manager for doing * all about it though. Scales should be a back up, simple as that.

Ideally, we'd sign somebody at CB who's on par with CCV or even Starfelt. Then sign another CB who would be back up to CCV and the new CB, then Scales as back up to him.

If we start these champions league games with Scales as our starting CB, there would be no point in even taking to the * field.

Be as well no turning up and taking the 3-0 forfeit. We'd end up with a better goal difference.

It's a bad day when the * keeper is better with the ball at his feet than an outfielder.

By far the weakest player in the starting eleven.

    This is where I’m at.

I find it difficult to criticise him as he’s so obviously out of his depth.

I’m happy for him that he had a good spell last year, got a new contract, and hopefully secured himself financially.

But he is a million miles off of what we need. Watch us for 10 minutes and he stands out like a sore thumb. You rarely see Kyogo annoyed but he was * raging today at the time Scales was taking on the ball.

He’s pure * at judging the flight of the ball when it’s in the air as well which is a * immediate red flag for a centre half at any level. Constantly caught under it and fouling *.

Again, not his fault but he’s holding us back big time.

CCV will also improve his own game when we get a better partner for him.

Imo he's good enough as our backup. Just like ralston is great for a backup right back. Doesn't deserve the level of criticism he gets here though.

I've been peddling the dislike for Scales even when he went through his purple patch. Just one of those players I can never get on board with but I do understand why he got a new deal etc but I do feel some folk are desperate for him to be *.
Obviously just got it wrong with Nawrocki and Lager because on paper they looked fairly decent players. Still don't think Nawrocki got a fair crack at it but the boy is made of glass so it can't be helped
