Well deserved for Scales who overall has had a very solid season. Now like most on here I agree that going into next season he should not be a first choice CB but as I have said many times before given the sheer volume of games we play over a season we need 5 CB's IMHO. Clearly CCV is number 1. We for sure need to sign another CB this summer who can come in and be a starter. Scales and Welsh are both solid backups IMHO. Then after that I would look to sell for sure Lagerbielke and Kobayashi. The question mark for me is Nawrocki. I think if we got a good offer for him we should sell and move on but I would be ok with him staying as well and giving him another year.

Like a few people above, I'll judge this news at the end of the summer window. He's earned a deal as he's been our most important CB this season. However, he's not as good as Starfelt and we need another CB at least as good as Starfelt.

He’s probably at his best when he’s competing for a spot, which he was early on. Then he got comfortable.

Put him in that position again with a top signing or two.

Rodgers feels the new deal for Scales is just reward for the defender digging his side “out of a hole” for much of the campaign. The former Shamrock Rovers defender looked likely to move on again last summer after returning from a season-long loan spell at Aberdeen.

But the 25-year-old found himself in the first team after a raft of injuries in central defence and, after clean sheets in his first three games, which included a trip to Rangers, Scales has been a regular starter and established himself in the Republic of Ireland team.

The centre-back has made 40 appearances this season and been the constant feature of a central defence which has missed the influential Cameron Carter-Vickers for several spells.

He has been a real stalwart this season,” Rodgers said. “He has played a lot of games, a lot of minutes. When lots of the players were breaking down earlier in the season he was there for us the whole time. So I’m delighted for him because last summer it was probably in doubt where he was going to play.

“Hopefully this summer he can end a winner and an international football player, having signed a new deal. It’s a great reward for his work over the course of the season.

I am really pleased for him, because he loves being here. He’s dug us out of a hole for a lot of this season when we have had a lot of inconsistencies in that position. I’m delighted he feels rewarded for that.”

It's the spending £8m on players who have contributed virtually zero this season I'd say is the real issue.

The issue of that is the manager refusing to play them when in all likelyhood both are better than the managers pet project

Not really seen anything that makes me rate either above Scales. Maybe they are but if so it's not by much, if anything.

Nawrocki looks far better on the ball.

Lagerbiekle maybe not but find it hard to believe anyone is currently a worse option than Scales.

Every team we face are now identifying him as the weak link, 100% huns tactics next week and cup final is gonna be focused on him

    He deserves the deal.

Hope we sign some quality in the summer though

Not really seeing it with Nawrocki. Besides he's never fit so definitely think we should be looking to move him on.

A new deal is understandable for me given his work for the club this season.

It's his squad status I'm really concerned about tbh. Never a first-choice pick in a million years.

Aye if the manager doesnt view him as better than Scales then he needs to go and likely will want to go too

They'll be offering Taylor a bumper new contract next. Seriously though, it's just another sign that this Club has no intention of taking us to the next level. We need and deserve much better quality in and to get rid of several players who are just not up to the standard required

Great back up to have to be honest, absolutely loves being here and is at the very least reliable. So long as we sign a starting CB in summer I'm happy to have him tied down.
