Agree completely about him being a big reason for our play being so slow and laborious.

He pretty much has to play ATM with CCV being out, as he's probably our next best defender and the only CB in any sort of rhythm due to him playing regularly, but him taking an absolute age to release the ball half the time isn't helping us.

I've also noticed that he has a habit of passing the ball slightly behind the other CB instead of ahead of them, which is further slowing things down.

Has to be shifted to full back for me, he’ll give us defensive solidity on the left hand side. Even with Welsh going off injured, I’d rather Lagerbielke play centre half than Berna at left back.

His ceiling appears to be there for all to see. No question of his desire, honesty and heart . Needs to move the ball quicker but considering the nature of all our play i think he's being told to play that way

Made two vital interceptions last night, but if we had a good enough squad he wouldn’t be starting every week.

If we had a good enough squad he wouldn't be here.

£7.5m spent on 2 cbs that can't get ahead of him or Welsh (a guy whos only still here bcoz he fills a qouta)

Hes brilliant as cover when ccv or big VVd type players get injured. Come in and be solid. Cannot ask for more. That's what a sqaud is. He's been pivotal this season.

Hes been asked to do way too * much.. In this system hes been asked to be our creative player from the back. Look at the stats from last night. He had more touches than * Calmac who is supposed to be our main man and driving force.

He has absolutely no help from midfield or left of him and Welsh is * *..

As I've said before we can do better but if he was just asked to defend he'd be bang on. Once again he is a long way off being our worst problem

I'm happy enough with him being here but after spending 7.5m on CBS you'd expect 1 to be good enough to start but neither are. Such odd signings, would have been better off signing a 6m experienced defender and a 1m youth project from a SPL team.

Held the ball and dribbled past a few players in some very tight moments last night which dragged hibs players out of their shape. What we then didn’t have is players in front of him making good movement or space. Scales is the least of our problems in defence right now

We have bigger problems but I do think we need better (not just him, across the pitch), both Nawrocki and Lagerbielke need moved on on the summer. Scales can be 3rd choice and a replacement 2nd.

That’s us as fans though. We always want improvement everywhere but realistically the board just don’t do it. If we can actually keep players fit our squad looks okay, the issue is we can’t and then you mix that with bad recruitment like you just mentioned. Nawrocki and lagerbielke costing that much…and being outperformed ten fold by scales just shows how * our recruitment is

This makes no sense. Rodgers explicitly said the opposite and I know he's a liar, but why would he ask his players to do such a stupid thing?

I don't know if I would blame Scales individually; but I definitely felt like our back line was our biggest problem last night. Our inability to play through their high block in the second half was shocking.

I think a lot of our other problems stem from other players having to adapt to the weakness of our back 4. For example: when your back line is so slow (Ralston, Scales, Welsh/Nawrocki) or prone to being out of position (Bernabei), it leaves you very vulnerable to quick counterattacks as both Aberdeen and Hibs amply demonstrated. Our midfielders are naturally going to take safer options in that scenario.

I don't think it's a coincidence that our worst attacking play seems to be when CCV is out.

TL;DR: Taylor, Nawrocki, Scales, Welsh, Ralston, Lagerbielke... that's OK with a Startfelt or a CCV beside them but frighteningly slow as a group. AJ is very average for pace and Bernabei gets caught wrong side a ton. It's only CCV who gives us any security at the back. A lot of other things that superficially look unconnected actually follow from that.

Aye this is it for me.

He isn't good at bringing the ball forward, but our midfield are giving him next to no help.

I thought Welsh was a lot worse on the ball the time he was on the park tbh.

I feel for Scales. As above, he's being asked to shoulder a lot for a guy who many thought would be at Hibs or Aberdeen, or lower, by now.

Noticed it last night Bernardo is screaming for the ball but he was in a woeful position to receive, it's a classic pass to me I'm open in 5s even when you're completely marked just so you can look busy.

    Midfield were gash.

It says a lot that we were all raving about him after games in Europe and the Huns but when we are up against * teams playing a low block all of a sudden he’s a problem.

I understand the game has changed and centre halves are required to be more comfortable on the ball and more creative but I wonder what would have been written about the likes of Bobo Balde or Johan Mjallby on this forum if Scales is considered “ponderous”, which seems to be the new buzz word for keyboard coaches.

Rodgers doesn’t want our centre halves to take chances, it’s a clear instruction and it’s night and day from the way we played under Ange, it doesn’t really suit the players we have at the moment though.

It's not clear at all. I really doubt he's asking our CBs to do that. It doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, it is. It’s noticeable how much more our defenders play safe passes under Rodgers. It’s not just the current team, it was the same when he was first here.

Under Ange, our defenders took way more risks and tried to break the lines far more. He was all about playing forward as quickly as possible. Rodgers isn’t, in my opinion from watching how we play, he wants us to move the ball and keep it as much as possible and thus have the opposition moved around, tire them out and be more patient and wait for an opening.

To be fair I probably worded it wrong in my original post, I meant less chances, not any chances.
