We better not sell him. Will not be a happy tim at all if we do, would'nt mind if we extended loan for the whole season though for him. Rosenberg seem to be going places and Liam's in the middle of that, would be sad to take him away from all that. If he wants to come back 100% after 3 month then good :50: Because as said before in this thread he has a lot of potential, potential that most of us are all excited about :icon_mrgreen:

Is he part of the attacking 3 or the holding 2? Either way he won't be first choice and I think it would be better for his progression if he stayed out there. A whole campaign under his belt will do him the world of good. I think its fantastic that he has gone abroad when most young Scottish guys would go out to some SPFL or Scottish Championship team (like McGeouch). Future Celtic and Scotland stalwart hopefully.

    Rosenborg plays a 4-3-3.

Two centrebacks and two wingbacks in defense. The wingbacks are supposed to be very offensive.

An attacking midfield consisting of a central attacking midfielder (doubles up as a defensive midfielder) and two "inner-runners".

The attacking trio consists of two attacking wingers and one target-man.

I dunno what the English expression for the indreløper would be, but a direct translation would be an inner-runner. Their role is to be offensive midfielder left and right, but not to hug the side line, but cut in towards the goal in hopes of getting the pass from the wingbacks or the wingers. While one winger is in the passing position by the side-line, the other winger pulls in to assist the target-man.

Liam is fighting for a position among the midfield (and, more unlikely, the wingers) in a very attacking minded formation. Right now he's in the unenviable position of fighting for a place on the team against players who are as talented, or almost as talented as him, but that have a permanent contract with the team. The positive is that the Rosenborg squad is on the thin side, so the route to the first team could be even longer. Rosenborg has the best starting 11 in the league, but not the best squad of 25 if you know what I mean.

That said, it seems the role as an inner-runner suits Liam well, and bear in mind that this is a formation that goes all gung-ho in attack, and there's [almost] always some support for Liam to draw on in terms of positioning and opening up the opposition defense.

As a Rosenborg and Celtic fan, I feel that this loan is a good deal for all three parties. Rosenborg gets some competition for their own talents, Celtic gets a player with international experience back and Liam gets to live out an adventure with Scandie models at a fully professional club.

The only danger I can see is if the loan stretches out over two seasons. At most; the loan should be at most one season long and Liam should return to Celtic in a position to challenge for and keep a first 11 spot. This is said as a Celtic fan while the Rosenborg fan in me hopes to keep him in Norway, but there's a bigger hope for a snowflake surviving to hit the ground in * I think.

Ah right okay, thanks for that. Quite in depth.

We play a 4-2-3-1 so I suppose that is comparable to a wide man in the attacking 3 in our formation (?).

So he is mainly sitting on the bench then?

I think we would 'indreløper' or 'inner-runner' an inside forward

Not quite, the position he's been playing so far is a mix. If the ball is in the centre/opposite side then he gravitates towards the centre himself to create openings or goal chances. If the ball is on his side of the field, then he goes towards the line to give the winger some space/passing possibilities.

He's been sitting on the bench so far, yes. He's good enough for a start, but as I said he's competing with guys about as good as he is that is on a full contract. The next couple of games will show if the Rosenborg management plays fair and gives him the league start he deserves. Needless to say, I hope they play it fair.

I think "indreløper" is what you call a "box-to-box-midfielder". At least that's how Football Manager has translated it :icon_mrgreen:

:smiley-laughing002: I wouldn't doubt football manager! Just when I seen this,
"Their role is to be offensive midfielder left and right, but not to hug the side line, but cut in towards the goal in hopes of getting the pass from the wingbacks or the wingers"
    I thought inside forward.

With all those people attacking, they have to run back to defend as well, I can see the box-to-box midfielder tag applied as well.

Yeah when you posted that I actually thought it suited the position as well.

On the bench again for tonights match against Odd :38:

If they want to extend the loan they need to start giving him more game time soon,

Kick-off in a little less than an hour for those who are interested

    * sake. What does he have to do to start?

Not much point sending the guy out on loan if he's only getting 10 minutes every match.

the manager is most likely bringing him on because he'll be full off energy while other players are starting to dwindle, thus improving the young lads confidence, makes perfect sense tbh

He's only been over there for a month or so, you can't just expect him to be an instant starter. If he just started every game instantly the rest of the players would be *.
I think he'll be a starter soon if he keeps performing though, and even all the sub appearances he's making its still more time than he'd get here I reckon.

It's also away to one of the better sides and so a very important match. He'll come on again as a sub and might start soon - possibly at home to one of the lower sides.

For what it's worth, he did start against Vuku in the cup.

But the first round in the Norwegian Cup is mostly for show anyway, so that pub teams like Vuku can get a big shot visiting, so it may not be the best example.

Odd just got a dodgy last minute penalty with Rosenborg leading 2-1 but missed it.
