Honestly think we should get him in the first team next year. We’ve gone after hickey...supposedly want doig...so why not just * play a kid the same kinda age ourself who’s highly rated. What have we got to lose now. 1 less position to buy for also then

County fans seem to be impressed with him for his age etc.

I wouldn't have him anywhere near a starting position, but he's the ideal candidate that should be one of 5 CB options.
The other four being made up of Julien, Ajer, A.Nother, Welsh, Hjelde.

The annoying thing is, Welsh is 2 years too late to the party and is technically filling that youth role of a few games a season, when really by 20 going on 21 he should be cementing if place as thee 3rd choice/rotational by now.

Either way, a competent manager with an eye to the future and youth should be in the door asap to assess guys like Hjelde, if he's deemed not remotely ready, get him loaned back out and bringing in another.
Or simply give the lad a chance.

17 year olds should most certainly be sniffing at the first team for us.

People think Ajer will actually be here next season? If Hjelde plays next season he will certainly not be partnering Ajer.

if we are not after Josh Doig we are mad. Guy is a big talent right under our nose and is attracting interest from England already. I was actually disappointed we didnt make a move before he signed the new contract with Hibs.
we should be all over players with talent in our league.

Now more so than ever if we’re having to tighten the budgets. However not a fan of going for any players in our league with no resale value. Would like doig in 100% and also porteous from hibs

I dont think Porteous is upto it if im being honest mate. I thot that maybe last season, but he hasnt impressed so much this season and seems to be getting rotated with Hanlon/Mcgregor.
He is tough in the tackle, for sure, but i duno about his positioning or pace.

Agree with you this season hasn’t been his best, but for his age and promise. And price. I don’t think he’d be a bad choice to bring in and improve under the right coach. He’s definitely one of the best defensive prospects scotland have right now. Would be hoping we’re going out to spend money on someone to play alongside jullien. Then porteous welsh and another buy as back up I’d be happy with

100% agree with all of this. Exactly how I feel about our central defensive situation, with the add-on that if Ajer leaves, he obvs should be replaced.

At least Lennons not there to ruin him by all accounts it was him that was driving all our youth players to leave

Agree on Doig. Porteous, for 88 mins a game, is solid as a rock, but in wee moments he gets caught napping so badly that he’d make Efe Ambrose look as alert as Baresi.

At a team like us - looking to play a high-press and defend against quick and sudden counter-attacks - I’d fear he’d cost us the odd couple of points in a season.

I do like him, but I want to see more robust concentration/focus before we’d make any potential move.

But at that point when he’s more so a “finished article” in the sense he has the concentration and focus we then face paying more money for him or losing out on him to the prem. would it not be better to get him in and learning with us before that point? At his age to have played so many games shouldn’t be overlooked
