We need someone in the mould of Paul McGrath in my opinion, * knows where you find someone like that on the cheap though. A striker and a left back. All that is going to cost a fair bit

This is Lennon basically stating his case to be given some of the money when we sell in the summer.

The best and most telling part of his comments are that he's here to stay,so any rumors of him leaving can be put to bed.

A prolific striker, left winger or creative left back to challenge Izzy and a quality CB is whats needed i think.

This will be Neil attempting to get the board to back him 100%, or see the club fall from the lime-light.

Or even worse, see him leave the club if the board doesn't match his ambitions.

:smiley-laughing002: I was going to say the same thing(not about Megan Fox though). The chances of Neil Lennon being given £10million to spend this summer are remote at best.

Losing hooper and or wanyama I think Lennons being quite sheepish asking for only 10m

After our CL run and IF (a big if) we sell Wanyama and Hooper then I would be seriously * * off if we never spent close to 10 million.

We don't need to stray from our current model either, 4 or 5 players at 2/3 million should keep us on an even keel (assuming we keep up our relative success in the transfer market).

I really, really hope we don't do that. I would rather sign one real bit of quality for around £5million and maybe another player at around the £2million mark. That would do me.

Before anyone says it, I know that players don't always produce according to their price tag but our scouts have such a good track record of finding talented players that I'd be fascinated to see what they would come up with they were told they could look at players in the £4-5million price range.

i see no need at all to spend 10 million, keep doing what we are doing and use to porto model for seasons to come. Even if we spend 10 million are we realistically going to better this season ?

I think we need about 3 players as it is mate. If we lose Hooper and Wanyama then we need to replace more than just those two.

Also with bigger transfer fees comes bigger wages, I think our wage structure restricts us more than our transfer budget.

You do realise Porto invests heavily in their playing squad, they regularly buy players for 5-15M, they just happen to also sell them for 20M+.

You need to keep investing in the team to continue or at least keep the progress where it is, without investment we will fall backwards, it will be like 1 step forward 2 back.

From the CL this year we will have made an overall profit of around 15M, thats without taking into account any players sales in the summer.

I would be seriously disappointed if we didn't try and invest in 2/3 players that could really make CL qualification a lot more realistic every season.

    Agreed.

You stick to your model but just move up a level.

Lyon in France are a model we can follow, as well. Their decade long grip on the French league title was due to smart business. They've perhaps sold a little too much in the last couple of years, though, and they've lost focus.

You have completely the wrong mindset. Transfer fees don't govern how talented a players is.

Look at Wanyama - £900,000 would you trade him for a £5 million player?
