Definitely not the only one. Just because he broke into Motherwell's first team at 17, it doesn't mean he'll end up being a top player. As things stand right now, he'd be our 6th best midfielder (7th best if we sign Schlupp). Don't understand the allure. Would love us to target David Watson though. I genuinely think he's better than Miller.

Same here, doesn't have the pace or power I think we need in midfield.

I agree with you about David Watson he looks a really good young talent and gets really stuck in , never gives up and a good tackler and quick as well he could be a good buy in the summer , I think he will end up a full Scotland international

MOTHERWELL threw out a deadline-day record bid by Belgian side Union St-Gilloise for Lennon Miller.

SunSport believes Well, who also knocked back approaches from Celtic and Udinese for the 18-year-old in January, snubbed the big-money offer.

It’s believed bids for the Scotland Under-21 midfielder exceeded Well’s biggest ever sale of around £3million for David Turnbull.

Miller still has 18 months on his Fir Park contract and is due to return to training next week after injury.

Well are believed to want a deal in excess of £4.5m to part with the talented teen, who has racked up over 60 appearances for the Steelmen.

He has been ranked among the top seven midfielders in the world for his age

They are also determined to secure a lucrative sell-on clause which would bring in even more cash when Miller moved on again.

Several top European clubs, including teams from the English, German and Italian leagues have been tracking one of the best young prospects to emerge in the Scottish game recently.

Keeping the teen, who could return against Ross County a week on Saturday, is a major bonus for Well.

And the board were determined to hold out for their valuation in the face of major interest.

People said the same things about mcginn, ferguson etc though.

"He wouldn't start, he'd be X best in the team" blah.

We need to be hoovering up the best talent in this league. We can't be not signing them just because they currently at 18 years of age (!) Might not be better than a 31 year old callum mcgregor or a guy with 300 games in the EPL. That's shocking logic.

I'd sign Watson as well but by your same logic there'd be no point.

I just don't rate his game mate. I value speed/mobility above everything else. Miller is rather slow for my liking, that's all. Likewise, I didn't rate Turnbull, Rogic, Ntcham, Bitton, etc. I fully realize Rogic is still a fairly popular player. Just my personal preference. On the other hand, I'm a sucker for speed demons like Maeda, Kyogo, Frimpong, AJ, Kuhn, you name it. Watson is an industrious midfielder. Absolutely love his game.

For the record, nobody ever said McGinn would have been our 6th/7th best midfielder. Our midfield options at the time were Brown, McGregor, Rogic, Ntcham and Christie fresh from his loan at Aberdeen. People were expecting McGinn to battle it out with Ntcham-Rogic for a starting spot. Miller would be nowhere near close our starting lineup.

We should be signing both Miller (Motherwell) & Watson (Kilmarnock). We need all the best homegrown talent we can get. The argument they won’t get in our side can happen after we have them, who knows they may surprise us and make the step up. If they don’t then they get moved on, no different to a foreign signing.

Plus I doubt we would lose much, infact we would probably lose more not signing them.

Apparently knocked back £4.5m.. if true probably looking for around £6m?

Difficult to ascertain if he's worth that..

In today’s game that’s the value of a good youth prospect and especially this analytics and statistical approach to the market; he ranks high in those terms so will be on the radar of many teams.

Union trying to sign him shows that as their scouting has been brilliant the last 4 years.

I agree though when you take into consideration our current midfield is he fully needed? Maybe Rodgers has looked at it and has decided he’d rather spend the funds elsewhere

Fair play to Motherwell. Good for them (and the league) to not fold at the first sign of a decent offer.

See unless he signs a new contract they will be lucky to get that in the summer for him. He will be in the last year of his contract and they will have one window to sell him for a decent fee before he can sign a pre contract.

It would be a disaster for a club like Motherwell to lose their main asset on a development fee so unless he signs a new deal they will be forced to sell in the summer.

I doubt the bid was £4.5m as I think that would have been accepted.

    Depends how you value it.

4.4m we paid for Brown 18 years ago, 1.5m more for him is probably fair with how the market is now even if he's a bit less experienced than Brown when we purchased him.

    We got 5m for Bernabei..

Absolutely agree with this. It really sickens me when I see decent talent leave the league, especially when they were very signable. Ferguson and mcginn are great shouts. Think hickey is another one we probably should have landed.

Looking at Miller now, £6M does seem heavy but I'd imagine if we don't land him and he moves elsewhere that we are likely to look back with regret, again.

In my mind, we should be positioning ourselves as the place to be for any young standout player in Scotland.

Not sure about him being a 6M player.
I would suggest 4M cash tops, with no add ons and they will bite.

I disagree with the part about mcginn.

Plenty of people didn't think he'd start or be good enough at the time. As well as Hickey, Ferguson etc.

I've seen this movie a million times. The similarity in comments in here is scary.

I think £6m you're buying for his obvious potential.

Difference between 4--6m is minimal at the end of the day as well. Have used buying brown for 4.4m in 2007 as an example. 18 years ago. Aye he was more experienced but I'd say we need to acknowledge where the market is and when we can get 5m for Bernabei, 3m for Johnston etc it puts it into perspective.

For me McGinn was viewed as a successor to Brown who looked like he only had a year or so left playing week in week out.

I actually think that was another reason why we tried the “well we will take him on a pre contract” as ideally we wanted him to cover Brown for a season and probably takeover for him the next year. So we’re willing to wait given we expected McGinn to be the uber fan and definitely sign. That backfired as Villa got taken over and Bruce had money to spend at the end of the window and wanted McGinn, coughed up and offered him a good financial package that became an exceptional financial package if Villa went up.
