£4m for him is so surprisingly low an asking price, Motherwell not demanding more. That’s a fear of them thinking £4m into the bank would be such a bonus and scared of not getting it in, instead of demanding what they could reasonably actually get for him. If he was at Aberdeen, they certainly wouldn’t be acknowledging £4m. They are the only other club in Scotland that stand their ground and demand fair fees in todays market for their players. Look at what they got for Ramsay, Miovski going for over £6m. They knocked back £7m from Villa for McKenna and it did bite them in the *, eventually leaving for £3.5m but they haven’t allowed it to give them the fear of losing out and it’s better for them.

£4m is a * bargain in this market. And we cannot let that chance go by. For there sake, not so much ours as I’d happily fleece them, I hope along with £4m they’re asking for a heavy sell on clause. Happy for us to take advantage but it’s a poor aspect for Scottish Football. For an 18 year old with his talent already, his potential, and the amount of games he’s played already to be relatively experienced for his age… £8m and a sell on fee as a starting price to be negotiated down a bit is something they could absolutely be asking for and getting.

I watched a YouTube video of his highlights and he looked a bit similar in style to Nir Bitton.

That will probably sound mental to some but, apart from his set pieces, the way he took the ball, turned and passed were similar.

Could he be the answer to the Callum McGregor future replacement ?

And we will probably regret it in the same way we regret not signing McGinn or giving Doak more opportunities.

Agree with mcginn but sounds like even if we’d played doak 15 times that season he’d have gone for hee haw at the end. Which would have then just * us off even more! Haha

Can see his talent. Most of this at around 17 years of age for a middle of the road top flight club..

Turning out of trouble, first touch, his passing..

What more could we have done with Doak? Offered a big contract. First team games at 16. Coming on when we had 10 men to try and win against Dundee United (which we did). Coming on against the Huns. This was when we had a challenge for the league..

    He was never staying..

I think we handled Doak correctly. We gave him opportunities in the team, in big games, had him training with the first team and by all accounts offered a lucrative deal.

The thing that probably put him off was the fact we have a horrific record of developing youth players recently. If we had a good track record, I think he would’ve committed to the deal

Something we really need to improve on

    I honestly don't think it would've mattered..

He would've joined Klopps's Liverpool regardless for me..

Agreed that we do need to try and get a better pathway though. Won't stop all but it'll stop some jumping ship straight away..

Agree with doak. See I’ve been thinking about this recently. We don’t develop much youth players for our own club but you look at players that have started with us then gone on to have professional careers. The number is huge. So we’re doing something right at the younger ages at least.

however to actually make that jump from academy to our first team you have to be very very special. 1. To deal with the pressure first and foremost of winning every single game. 2. To deal physically with the intensity of our style. 3. To have the quality to oust a potential player valued at millions of pounds that we’ve signed from elsewhere.

I doubt we will see more than 3-4 academy players play 50+ games for us from now to 10 years in the future.

those points are before you even begin to factor in that other clubs can offer players a different place to continue their development technically and financially too.

it’s a difficult subject to control. And we are also not blessed like the barcelonas, man cities of the world with players who can step right into the playing squad and never look back

It's hilarious just having a look at their obsession with Lyall Cameron because they're skint, he's cheap and they can't even get near the table for Miller:56:

A decent player at Dundee, nowhere near our level though. Still young and out of contract in the Summer but he wouldn't even be close to our bench. I reckon he'll be off to Hearts or Aberdeen.

Some tiny wee 22 year old midfielder at Dundee..

The Miller thread is awash with them wanting him in as he's basically free and they got Barron like it :giggle1:

It's comedy gold the state they're in :giggle1:
