There was only one version of the occupation of Ireland. Why come on here and call people terrorists?

ANYONE who fights against British tyranny and oppression is branded a 'terrorist', 'Anarchist' etc.....

*, even the farmers with pitchforks..throwing stones at the Brits were classed as terrorists:rolleyes:

At least we know the truth.

The biggest terrorists in the world are the British army.

I know mate...but calling people terrorists and murderers is very sensitive especially to Irish Republicans. A list of countries as long as your arm supported the IRA during the war. This is half the reason why the IRA were able to fight on so long. Only the British public who were largely ignorant to the "Irish Question" called them terrorists.

When you look at the crimes of the British in Ireland and beyond it soon becomes apparent who is the real "terrorists". They have murdered more civilians lying in their beds in one night than the IRA ever killed or ever would be able to kill.

I know most Celtic fans are embarrassed now and would prefer us to be Glasgow Hibernians however please don't call people terrorists unless you are 100% committed to that position.

I am sorry but this type of language is offensive, and you are worried about us offending other people...what about trying not to offend Irish Republicans on here....at least we are Celtic fans like you!

Celtic will never lose their heritage by stopping singing a few rebel songs. Everyone knows out history and we can sing enough songs to celebrate our irish roots without using the political aspect to point score.

To say we would become Glasgow Hibernian is very naive and a really poor argument. We have introduced new songs season on season and they have enhanced the atmosphere whilst retaining our traditions.

Willie Maley, Let the People Sing, Just Cant Get Enough and 67 should be a good example of the songs that celebrate our club as well our roots (OK, JCGE maybe doesnt, but it lifts the atmosphere).

Rarely agree on this subject with you Kemo however you do talk sense.

I am almost resigned to the fact eventually Celtic FC will be just that...a football club. It's not just the Irish thing, we used to support revolutionaries from all over. Basque's , Palestinian's, Cuban's and anyone who stood against Imperialism. I really loved how my Football team's supporters were clued up on all these conflicts and supported the oppressed when I was growing up. The average hun knew * all about their own heritage never mind the Basque region!!

Of course I know that times change however that part of being a Celtic fan was really important once upon a time. During the war we sang our hearts out as Irish men and woman died almost weekly. We were demonised as "terrorist" sympathisers however our support was unwavering. The Club never ever criticised us back then and most Celtic fans were either respectful of the majority view or sang with us.

Republican News was sold openly at every game and we caught up with news from the 6 counties. We also gave money to support the Army ( whether it ever got to Ireland I'll never know) but we all felt we, Celtic Football Club supporters, were doing our part. We shunned the critics and we sang our songs of support loud and proud. It seems strange now the war is over, we are being criticised from within and not from the usual enemies of Republicanism.

I fear for the Club as I know it, and feel something will die inside the Club if we remove the Political element from the support.

Great post, the first response I can relate to. I dunno how old you are, but when I was younger I was angry at the way I felt my club and my family had been treated in Ireland. Im a little older now, seen more things and maybe not as fiery, thats maybe where I am at fault. I love my club passionately. I was in tears on sunday, on at least 2 occasions. A lot of that was down to the singing we did then.

Dont take my criticisms as personal, I am just stating my argument as everyone else is. Perhaps I should reel in my thoughts and just let us all make our own minds up, its a very emotive subject and probably one that we will never compromise and certainly not one we should be falling out over.

Again, what a great reply. Probably the most honest and well put one I have read on here.

Cheers mate....i'm 38 and started going when I was 13 years old. I know some younger posters will not have had the pleasure of standing in the Jungle and might not know just how "Republican" Celtic were back in the 80's. I wanted to give a bit of context to some of my posts.

I am not an idiot or some war junkie. I have four children, cat, dog and mortgage and consider myself reasonably intelligent!!

My Grandad was an Irish Republican from Armagh and he used to tell the stories of past "campaigns". He never ever glorified war however and I would never teach my kids that war is anything other than a horrible horrible thing.

I travel to Ireland quite often although I would never begin to think I understand what everyone, loyalist and Republican went through during the war.

Anyway I agree that this type of thing tends to cause divisions in our support, I need to remember sometimes that we are not in the 80's anymore!!
