I think this also, the one at Tynecastle was apparently the support being "defiant" which is an embarrassing excuse. Shame on whoever started that as a way of "supporting" our manager after a horrific attack.

But if the club were to come out and say "stop this song, and this song and this song" specifically mentioning whatever addons and chants, any fans who don't should be punted out the ground, because I don't think the club would ask to stop anything that was as out of date as BOTOB or anything as innocuous as Let The People Sing, because they are not offensive unless people are looking to be offended. I think they'd only ban stuff that right minded people would not want to sing in a football stadium.

I’ve sang Broad Black Brimmer, Boys of the Old Brigade and Roll of Honour when I’ve travelled with the Irish national team.

    Give yourself peace.

I, like Mystic Penguin, can count the amount of games I've missed this season on one hand. I sure as * won't have anyone questioning my support for Celtic.

There is this ridiculous assumption being made that guys like me only sing IRA songs at the games. That is complete and utter pish.

We were being viciously antagonised by a sect of supporters who were singing about * blood and applauding a bigoted thug who had attempted to assault our manager.

I still don't see how singing IRA songs is supporting Celtic. Seems more like your supporting some political views and using Celtic as a means of channelling aforementioned views...

We can all have our own reasons for supporting Celtic....coming from an Irish Republican family I had no choice. It was part of our DNA. I didn't choose to support Celtic. I grew up supporting both Celtic and the IRA, which at that time was perfectly normal. I educated myself to the situation which made us different to the huns who sung about a conflict they knew little about.

I will be devastated to see any eradication of our Republican roots at CP. I only hope there are many young fans who carry on this proud tradition. I for one will fight any attempt to criminalise the Republican songs.

    Remember that was tried before!!

And because of the greater emphasis on British football and GAA, Irish football is not really given substantial coverage on national TV.

However, at times in the recent past, I’ve been to the Brandywell in Derry where we’ve sung a large myriad of Republican chants.

The thing is, you’re not going to hear this being reported, regardless of how vociferous it is. Quite simply, nobody cares about small leagues and small clubs.

There is some pretty distasteful chanting among Championship and Blue Square Premier clubs, but there will never be enough interest to bother reporting on it.

Nonetheless, to suggest it doesn’t happen is untrue.

Hibs used to be a team with Irish Republican 'leanings'. They dropped all of that to be a football club. People bring it up an example to show that Celtic would become nothing more than your average SPL team if the Replublican stuff was dropped.

Dazza,Mystic Penguin,Marti-bhoy,Padraig_1916 and Artur Boruc, and the usual suspects have probably been going square go's since the last time I looked today so Im not bothering to read the last few pages.I just want to say that I think the club has much, much more serious things to consider and focus our energies on than some songs. If the people, like myself, who are in favour of the rebs, just stop responding to the anti rebel brigade then we can move on.Just a thought.

Ridiculous, do you genuinly think people spend their money and time on going to celtic games, just to sing IRA songs?
