    Let the People Sing
Some people are obsessed to the point of distraction about singing the Rebel songs!! Why?? Celtics history is that of a Scottish Club with Irish Roots. There is so much more to supporting the club than singing the rebel songs. Plenty of Irish songs that can be sung that celebrate our roots and more.

Why the obsession? We introduce songs all the time, Just Cant Get Enough has been a great addition and the 67 song also.

Neil is right on this, we need to bring ourselves into the present day and celebrate our club. Never mind the IRA stuff, the rebel stuff etc. There is a lot of focus on our club, and there are people who are offended by some of the stuff thats been sung, whether it is IRA related, or even in tone. Too often we sing these songs, not in the intention that they were written, but as a political statement at games and a starboard shot at the huns to wind them up.

Celtics Irish roots will never be forgotten, its on our badge, its in our manifesto and its in our history.

Let the orcs worry about the past and the baggage that is holding them down. If we want to disassociate ourselves from them and the "Old Firm" tag, then we need to do so totally.

Maybe it would be good if the club took the lead on this, or even the Green Brigade and give us an acceptable songsheet.

I want whats best for our club, sick of being dragged into the gutter with those *. Our songs will always be offensive to them, no matter what. But we need to show the rest of the footballing community that we can adapt and move forward.

The truth is if we dont, or are unwilling, then we will always be part of the "Old Firm"

I for one, dont want anything to do with them.

Their songs can't be compared to ours, our songs are not bigoted, sectarian, racist or even illegal - so we really don't need to do anything to be different from the huns - we already are.

I'll refer back to my earlier post, you are allowing yourself to believe the 'Old Firm' have a problem with singing terrible songs at stadiums throughout Scotland, when really - it's the huns problem.

I think the sentiment behind Lenny's statement concerns the Oh Ahh line in Celtic Symphony, which Lawwell has catergorically said must stop. Also, to a lesser extent, the 'P-IRA' chant and 'Cheer Up <insert some="" hun's="" name="">' song. He's correct, they must stop.

But I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with singing songs such as TBOTOB, even at CP. I don't agree with stopping singing Irish songs just to somehow try to appease the media in Scotland. To be honest, I don't think the media are, generally, too harsh on us concerning the songs debate.

I also don't agree that we should stop because some people might be offended. Individuals will always find something to get offended about. If anyone is offended by songs such as TBOTOB, and others of the same ilk, then they are either beyond pandering to, or in dire need of an education as to the meaning and sentiment behind the songs.

It's also my belief that even if we cut out absolutely everything relating to Ireland, we'd still be seen as the green side of the sectarian problem.

Attitudes in Scotland need to be changed. People need to accept that the many cultures, including the Irish, aren't going to disappear. Irish culture has been celebrated through supporting Celtic for nearly 125 years, it shouldn't stop now.</insert>

It wont stop for the simple fact that when boys turn into men and give it a rest other boys will just take they're place.

I dont sing them but couldnt give a *, people can sing waht they want, they paid for they're ticket so its up to them. I would however like to see an end to the IRA chants, dont mind the rebels though

I don't know why people are trying to create a fuss about the rebel songs, they will always be sung at cp. I get that IRA chants could be avoided so that we don't get negative attention. Republican songs should be sung because it makes celtic what they are a great club that has rich history.

I can't beleive people are saying the PIRA chant must be stopped. When was the last time it was sang apart from the Hearts game?
Our support have been exceptional all season and all a few people want to do is attack them for songs and chants that they personally do not like.Get a grip!

The club knows we'll listen to Lenny and have much more respect for one of his requests than if Reid or someone had said it,that's why they've got him to ask it to stop.
Some self loathing fans shouldn't make our support pander to them just to suit themselves.
They've made a problem out of nothing,on this site especially, considering all this discussion has came from the Hearts game, where songs from years ago were defiantly sang after our manager was attacked. If anyone says any football supporters are going to react differently then they're in denial.

Contextual Irish rebel songs are fine - they merely lament Ireland’s just struggle for freedom, irrespective of whether the term ‘IRA’ appears in the lyrics or not.

The Queen has already given her Royal seal of approval to Boys of the Old Brigade – given that she’s just laid a wreath in their memory.

If the head of the British state can commemorate those who died for Ireland’s freedom, then there is no way a sect of football supporters should be prohibited from doing so. It would be utterly ridiculous.

However, random ‘Up the RA’ ‘* the Brits’ ‘PIRA’ chants just sound loutish and stupid.

I’m also not comfortable with calling Rangers managers ‘Sad Orange *’

Great post mate, the only thing I disagree with is the "Cheer up" song. I don't see a problem with it, and when it's sung it always means we're giving the huns a hammering :celt_2:
