It probably is, if players dont get enough rest and are constantly playing in pain then they won't be running as normal and all that which means injuries would be more likely as they'd be running a little awkwardly to avoid pain and stuff causing them to go over on their ankle or end up getting hit with tackles. You are probably also likely to do less warming up if your legs etc are always aching just because you cant be arsed which will lead to more hamstring injuries and the likes.

If you are only playing 1 game a week and getting a proper 5 weeks off in the summer then you'd probably always be fresh and pain free. Playing every weekend and midweek and only getting about 3 weeks off in the summer would knock * out you.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has consulted a specialist in order to get to the root of his persistent calf injury issues.

Griffiths broke down in a game against Hibs at the end of January and remains some way off match fitness.

The calf injuries have been a perennial problem for the Scotland internationalist with the last two seasons particularly disjointed because of it.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers spoke of his and Griffith’ frustration about the recurrence of the injury and specialist help has been sought in an attempt to ascertain the reason for it.

“Griffiths was seeing a specialist over his calves the other week but even when he gets back he needs to get fit,” said the Hoops boss.

“It could be an extended period really.”

A huge loss but I'd rather he missed the rest of the season if it meant getting rid of the persistent calf problem.

Worst season ever for injuries. Griff is exactly the type of player you want for the business end of the season.

This season has been a joke for injuries. So frustrating, it’s stopped us getting any rhythm.

Aye I'd rather get this sorted otherwise he's gonna keep pulling up missing month's at a time..

We've got 2 strikers to go with and Rogic and Paddy coming back so our attacking options are looking decent still..

Griffiths is a player you can rely on, exactly what you need at this time of the season. Huge loss.

Feel like a bit of a plum saying this as I’m sure the experts have explored everything, but, get the guy some orthotics for his boots/trainers.

My calves are too short and it helped me no end. Or just get him doing mad stretching sessions.

Obviously not as easy as that but * me get to the bottom of this sports science guys! It’s getting ridiculous.
