6 goals from 9 starts in the league is a pretty serious goal threat imo from Roberts. Wide forward is just a fancy term for describing a winger, they still occupy outside the box in the wing/wide areas mainly during a match which is something Griffiths isn't suited to as I have already said. And actually Brendan eventually adapted his system to accommodate both Suarez and Sturridge (SAS) up front as a partnership with Sterling and Coutinho behind them and Gerrard behind them.

I think it's pretty clear Griffiths is being accommodated for in a position he isn't used to or as effective in because of the season he had last year and the fact Brendan wants Dembele to be his main target man striker.

I think you'll struggle to find many people who would prefer to see Griffiths wide right as opposed to Roberts this season.

For me both Griff and Roberts need to play in whatever the system..

As their talent in self evident...

If we play 4-3-3(With the current personnel)

    Gordon
    Lustig Sviatchenko Simunovic KT
    McGregor Bitton Armstrong
    Roberts Dembele Griffiths

With the personnel we have I would like to see a 4-3-1-2

Let Roberts and Rogic fight it out for the place behind the strikers.

Rodgers has shown in the past that he can build a formation with a bit more fluidity and subtly than the numbers suggest. So our 433, with Griff on the right probably won't be quite as cut n dry as a striker and two wingers. Griff has a strikers instincts, he does like to get in the box. He's no poacher or penalty box sniffer though, and is more than capable of coming deep and linking up with play. I reckon he'll end up sitting a lot narrower, playing right up and off dembele, almost like a front two. Having these two gives us goal potential, but also defence from the front as dembele is a unit, capable of holding up the ball and challenging the centre halves, and Griff can be a right Wee nuisance. For this to work well though, we'll need a proper wing back on the right, pace, passing, crossing and bags of stamina. Perhaps why we were linked with Gunter.

Its actually frightening the way people are yacking on about this formation * and doubting Rodgers, * me Rodgers has had 4 games, he isnt a * spastic otherwise hed probably be on this forum spouting the same * that's been posted on here and the Roberts thread.

Rodgers knows what he's doing he's not a * idiot, Roberts and Griff will play and they will play where they are told and they will play well. 433 doesn't just mean 433 with wingers they could both play more narrow and they can both swap around but at the end of the day people (wanayama) are just looking to cause any old debate just so they can say told you so, you know as well as i do he isnt going to drop Roberts in the league or Europe, why would he? Just because he hasn't started in 4 pre season games so what its pre season the games mean sweet * all, players adapt to systems far more in training than they do games.

Anyhow i think Griff will be a top player where ever Rodgers plays him.

Why is everyone so keen to have Dembele who hasnt scored a goal for Celtic in the Middle and Griff who has scored a bucket load out wide.. Why would anyone want Dembele starting ahead of Griffiths for that matter? Did Dembele not play more as a wide player for Fulham scoring a lot coming in off the wing.. To have Griffiths out on the wing and Dembele as our striker is just mind boggling to be honest..

The reality is nobody has a clue what our strongest eleven will be in 6 months time or even 2/3 months time, including Brendan.

Do you know what that's a very good point, he will need to earn his place.. And why should Griff step aside from his central role?

However, he is a bit of a coup and is Brendan's first signing.. And he looks like a central striker, big and powerful... I think we'll see great interchanging between our front players no matter what the formation..

We are getting too bogged down with 4-3-3 and 4-3-1-2 or 4-2-3-1, good players coached properly will always gel..

The question is can we accomadate Griff, Dembele, Rogic and Roberts?

Exactly.. I have no doubt the lad is a good player and bit of a coup for us but he has done nothing in my opinion to displace Griffiths who basically carried this team last season.. As Rupert Pupkin said no one knows what our strongest team is or as you said what formation we will be playing... But taking out Griffiths just because we signed this lad is madness IMO...

    Good post :smiley-laughing002::50:

Playing in the right side of a front 3 doesn't make to a winger, at least not in the traditional sense of the role.

Personally I would love to see us play a 3/5/2 with wing backs.

    Gordon

    Lustig/mulgrew simunovic sviatchenko

    Janko. Tierney

    Brown Bitton

    Rogic/Roberts

    Dembele Griffiths

The most optimal formation I believe would be a 4321 however I'm aware of how Roberts benefits us and would be looking to shoehorn him into the team in maybe that role behind the strikers.

This is where the problem lies for us though, we have Rogic, Christie and Henderson vying for that role also, I can really see no solution - the only thing I can think of is moving Henderson Into one of the CM roles, moving on Johansen and limiting browns involvement. In that case we still have 3 players going for that role, 3 very good players at that.

In all honesty, I really can't be * thinking about how we're going to do it, cause I've no idea.

Playing Griffiths out of position is unacceptable. 40 goals last season says it all.

Got to play through the middle next week, move Dembele to the left or play 2 through the middle.

He remains our most effective player, playing him out of position is not an option.

He either plays up top himself or with Dembele, not shifted to accommodate him.
