DUNDEE will go all out to sign striker Leigh Griffiths from Celtic.

Dens Park boss James McPake has urged club chief John Nelms to strike a deadline-day deal.



SunSport revealed last week the Dark Blues were desperate to land the former Scotland star.



Nelms is currently overseas which has complicated discussions. But McPake has made it clear bringing in close pal Griffiths would be a major coup.

Griffiths also has options at an Israeli club, but he has reservations about a move abroad



A deal with former club Dundee is one he’s eager to make happen and Celtsare keen to move him on.

But the talks could go into the final hours of the window while Celtic look to revamp their squad.

Griffiths realises he has no hope of forcing his way into Ange Postecoglou’s plans and former Dundee boss Barry Smith, who worked with the striker during his first spell at Dens Park, reckons a deal would suit all sides.


He said: “Going back to Dundee would be perfect for Leigh because he’s one of those players who needs to be loved.



The fans have fond memories of him scoring goals in his first spell and he was hugely popular.


“If he concentrates on what he does on the park he’d be a great signing.

“Leigh is at the stage where he has to be playing games. If he can get back to playing week in, week out, he can get back to his best again.


There is a lot of bravado with him, but there is a delicate personality behind it all.

“The fact James McPake knows him well, they go back a long way, will help because they have that relationship already.”
