Yip that’s the rumour. Surely Hibs won’t entertain this??? They’re far too aware of his off field issues to take a punt on him id have thought. Nisbet would be great for us though.

Dundee have launched a shock bid to land Leigh Griffiths on loan.

And SunSport understands the IS keen on a return to Dens Park

Despite being handed a new one-year deal by the Hoops in the summer, the 31-year-old has yet to play a single minute of competitive football under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Club chiefs are open to Griffiths moving on, and it’s thought there is interest in him from south of the border and overseas.

Aberdeen and Hibs were also linked but the Dons opted instead for former favourite Marley Watkins on a two-year deal while Hibees looked elsewhere and landed James Scott on loan to bolster their options following the news that Christian Doidge will be out for the rest of the calendar year with an Achilles injury.

That leaves Dundee in the driving seat and their enthusiasm for kick-starting Griffiths’ career is said to be matched by the player.

He has fond memories of his first spell in Dundee, who he joined in 2009 for £125,000.

He repaid their faith in him over a five-year period when he scooped six Young Player of the Month awards before landing a £150,000 transfer to Wolves in January 2011.

Crucially, he also has a close relationship with Dundee manager James McPake and his assistant, Dave Mackay.

The trio worked together at Livi, while McPake was credited as being a positive influence on Griffiths as his captain during a goal-laden loan stint at Easter Road.

The pair have stayed in touch, with McPake clearly of the belief that he can help restore one of Scottish football’s most prolific frontmen, who has struggled for form and fitness in between some well-documented off-field issues.

The player is determined to get back up and running and, ultimately, force his way back into the international set-up and sees regular football at Dens Park as the ideal platform.

While Dundee have prioritised the development of an Academy system overseen by Gordon Strachan – who has just taken up a consultancy role with Celtic – their supportive board have shown in the past that they’re willing to go the extra mile to land established, experienced players like Charlie Adam, Graeme Dorrans and Jason Cummings.

They hope Griffiths’ will follow in their footsteps and help them build on a solid start to the campaign.

I still think we could use him in a deal to get Nesbitt.
