Many of us were calling for his head last season.

And the season before that. And the season before that…

 

People who have defended him from here have basically just said he shouldn't be called a nonce or a paedo which is correct. No one is saying keep him here and everything is fine now because of no criminal behaviour has taken place on a technicality or whatever. After yesterday it doesn't look like he can stay but we'll see.

The thing with the camera emojis is a stretch because it is clear he is wanting nudes or more risqué pics. If he is targeting underage girls with this tactic then hopefully more come forward and he gets hammered and jailed. I don't think that's what has happened at all though. I cannot judge myself as I don't know what she looks like but others have said she looks early twenties (granted some have said she looks younger than that) either way he should know better but he is an established idiot. The lassie herself said he didn't know her age.

A rat on probably all his gfs, a scumbag, a creep(the connotations difference between creep and peado are massive) and ultimately unfit to be Celtic player. It is just not fair to call him paedo or nonce over it.

Again, the difference between calling someone, in this context, a creep or a nonce is almost indistinguishable. They’re used interchangeably even if one is a more loaded term than the other. The guy was one dodgy picture away from a spot on the * Offenders Register and a stint in the jail. I suspect he’s going to be hearing a lot worse for a long time to come.

You can call it a stretch, but numerous people have attested to the widely accepted meaning behind the use of those emojis in that context. You agree that he was obviously fishing for pictures, so why does he dance around clarifying what he means? He’s bold enough to imply nudes, but he isn’t willing to come out and say it? Given that emojis and the language/unofficial meaning behind them is still somewhat fluid, I don’t doubt that a half-decent lawyer could come up with a reasonable excuse.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting you, but your post seems to imply that the people correctly identifying her as underage (or at the very least, under 18) are/were in the minority, whilst the people saying she looks in her mid-twenties is the more commonly held opinion, or even that opinion seems to be split. The vast majority of posts on here, and elsewhere, regarding the issue of her perceived age lean heavily towards her looking her age. I’ve tried not to be blunt about it in previous posts, and with all due respect to the girl in question, I seriously can’t comprehend how anyone could see her pictures and think that she’s even 18, never mind mid-twenties.

Regardless, ignorance isn’t an excuse for being a creep and the justification that he didn’t know her age is weak to say the least. If someone’s age is dubious (which, again, I don’t agree with in this instance) and/or you can’t find any sort of reference to their age - don’t message them asking for nudes. Choosing to go ahead and do it anyway is less to do with idiocy, and more to do with simply not giving a *.

Very few people are accusing Griffiths of being some sort of serial predator. However, given how he approached this situation, there’s plenty of justification to question his attitude regarding young women. Frankly, it appears that he was more concerned with trying to get some nudes, rather than if the person he was asking was of legal age.

Whether knowingly or unknowingly, and I’ve made my stance on that clear, he messaged a 15 year old girl with the intent of soliciting nudes. He’ll be booed constantly until the day he quits or retires and shaking his head ain’t going to change that. His attitude was * enough before all of this and I doubt this will do much to improve it.

 

I agree with most of what you say and again I haven't seen what she looks like to judge myself.
I would say it seems 50/50 on the age opinion chat in here (and thats with a mob rule thing going on when its easier to just shout peado) but if some on here think she looks older then Griffiths could have too.

There are plenty on here making out like he deliberately targeted an underage lassie. I just don't think that's true.

I think the emoji of the camera is likely something most do when asking for pics and maybe typical for the kind of flirty chat that goes on in the private msgs. I agree though a lawyer could make any excuse up despite everyone knowing what it was implying.

You cannot call him a peado or a nonce though, that is my main point. Get him to *, he is an embarrassment and has disgraced himself and the club yet again. I cannot believe the club don't have a "bringing clubs name into disrepute" clause. It is further disruption when we can least afford it and Ange in particular could do without it. It is also for the second year running and after being looked after when suffering from mental health issues. No gratitude or respect and deserves to be booed to * every game.

 

Any player who doesnt respect the club on or off the pitch deserves to be boo,d.We have our standards on and off the pitch and have spent years trying to build and maintain the highest of standards possible.

These players will come and go (follow the money)but we fans will always be here representing the club in our own ways.There is no way can we sit back and watch these blow in,s destroy our clubs reputation by behaving inappropriately off the pitch or playing * on it.

As fans we have a role to play and the very least we can do is boo them.

 

Aye, I dont want him near squad. Not just because he's a sleepy * but last season came back unfit and didn't do f all about it. After the club stood by him with his mental health giving the time off for what he needed he repaid them by coming back unfit and overweight? Surprised we gave him the extra year tbh

 

Griffiths is most definitely sleazy and lacking in morals or self control. I don't think he's a paedophile or nonce though and shouldn't be treated like he is one. If he was a nonce I'd think he would be looking for a 15 year old who looked 12, not one who looked older. I don't remember players being boo'd in the past because they were sleazy (e.g Best and McAvennie off the top of my head but there were probably many more but we didn't have the internet back then to catch them at it).
I accept we live in a different time now and people's flaws and mistakes aren't accepted or forgiven in the way they might have been in the past. But if we start booing players because we don't like their morals then we're on a slippery slope.
There is a mob mentality in a section of the support at the moment. I think they should remember that this is a guy with probably quite low intelligence, a difficult upbringing, a history of depression, poor impulse control and who is a fallen hero. The consequences of the booing might go beyond him just leaving the club.
If the people booing genuinely believe that Griffiths is a paedophile then I can understand them booing but I think most of them just like being part of the mob.
I'd prefer it if Griffiths left the club now as he's made himself another sideshow we could do without but I don't agree with the booing.

There is nothing to be gained for him here. He's done in the eyes of most fans and will be hounded wherever he goes in this country from now on. I doubt he's a paedo but sooner or later his repeated moronic social media antics were going to come home to roost, he's had enough warnings and I have little sympathy for him. If he wants to have a career, without constant jeering and abuse he would be better going abroad or down south but firstly Postecoglou needs to stop playing him before he gets brought down with him as well.

 

Simple just do a money and player exchange with Hibs for Nisbet and it's done but knowing the board they would rather keep Griffiths because it's saves money buying another striker .

 

No chance that would happen. Is nisbett not about 23/24? Surely hibs see profit in him. Griffiths is at the end of his career never getting a swap deal with hibs here.

 

We'll will see but think he will go back to Hibs sometime soon and we might have to buy Nisbet outright but this won't happen till Eddie is sold .

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has NOT travelled to Denmark for Celtic’s Champions League qualifier with Midtjylland.

The striker, booed by Hoops fans at the weekend, has stayed home.

It’s believed Griffiths’ absence is not due to any off-the-field issue.


SunSport understands the controversial hitman failed to travel after picking up yet another calf injury in training.

Griffiths, 30, was part of the first-team squad during the final session at training on Monday


But he complained of a muscle strain and a decision was taken for him not to make the journey.


It’s the latest injury setback for Griffiths, who struggled for fitness throughout last season.

Ex-boss Hoops Neil Lennon was hugely critical of his conditioning after returning from lockdown.


Celts have just TWO fit strikers for the tie, with only Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti available for selection.


Griffiths is desperate for a run of games to try and win over the Hoops support.

He looked to be on his way out at the start of the summer before signing a new one-year deal.



But he was sent home from the club’s training camp in Wales in disgrace after it emerged he sent inappropriate messages to a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Police launched an investigation and after they decided there was no criminal wrongdoing he returned to the fold.

Boss Postecoglou last week vowed Griffiths was back in his plans and he was on the bench for last week’s 1-1 draw with Midtjylland.

But when he made a sub appearance in the 6-2 thumping by West Ham he was booed by a large number of fans.


Asked about the reaction, Postecoglou insisted it was up to the striker to respond.

He said: “That’s going to be down to Leigh and his performances.


“If he works hard at training and produces the kind of football he can, scoring goals, I’m sure the crowd will get behind him.

“I won’t be telling the Celtic supporters anything. They have followed this club a lot longer than I’ve been here.

“Maybe it is a big challenge for him, but that’s what he wanted.”
