I think he needs to stay away from Scottish football. A new start somewhere else.

Surely NYC under Diela would be a good move?

There are also huge doubts over the future of Edouard’s one time partner Leigh Griffiths after the striker posted a curious social media post, in which he can be seen training on his own in a gym wearing Scotland kit rather than Celtic’s club gear.

Griffiths will officially become a free agent on Thursday but had expressed hopes of being thrown a lifeline to stay at the club for another 12 months by new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Celtic top brass refused to make any comment on Griffiths’ situation with one source telling Record Sport that discussions were ‘progressing well’.

Ex-Celtic striker and Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton has been left frustrated with the Scot’s situation.

He told the Daily Record’s Celtic Podcast: “Leigh Griffiths is posting pictures on Instagram. I’m back in training, I’m getting fit. Well let’s see.

“The Griffiths debate is getting tiresome.

“Scotland at the Euros, Griffiths should’ve been picked? No he shouldn’t because he wasn’t at the required fitness level, hasn’t been all season.

So let’s hope if Leigh is back in the gym that he’s up to speed and a massive asset because, if he is, then Ange Postecoglou is going to be in a very good position.

But Leigh’s one of these players who Ange will be scrutinising and looking at closely.

“Everything about Leigh is going to be attitude, attitude, attitude. Fitness levels. Is he going to be fit enough to play 90 minutes for three times a week?

“If he’s not, then I’m afraid that’s unacceptable. He isn’t 40. He’s let his standards drop.

“There may be reasons for that, but the frustration is that he’s so, so talented

You don’t lose that finishing ability. Some of the goals he scored and he’s a quarter fit are eye opening. The one at Aberdeen. That lovely, low backlift, that sharpness of thought, the way he moves in the box at times is instinct.

“It’s all there, but the fitness levels aren’t. He’s going to be a real dilemma for the manager coming in and what he’s going to do.

I bet at the moment Postecoglou is thinking: I can’t trust him.

“He’s another one who’s playing for his career. It’s not enough coming off the bench with little cameos. Scoring at Dundee or whatever or running over to the crowd. That’s all well and good for him, but little cameos won’t win Celtic back the title.

    “Celtic need a consistent striker.”

Agree with Sutton there. For me the only way I would be ok with Griffiths staying at this point is if he signed a new deal that was structured with lots of performance related goals in terms of games minutes played goals scored and pay tied to that. Maybe under some sort of performance related structured contract he can get back to his best but playing under his previous contract its clear he cannot be trusted to do what he needs to do to be a big part of the team as his ability should make him.

Apparently, there is an offer of a 1-year extension. Not sure if he has accepted the deal or not.

    What an example this sets.

He doesn't deserve this chance, no matter the outcome.

Not fussed about this. As long as he is only backup. We need bodies and he can score goals in domestic football, which is our main focus this season.
