I'll become a judge one day, hopefully. What law school taught me is: don't think everything is over until the appeal phase is concluded.

Let's be clear, Legia were not kicked out of the Champions League for fielding a suspended player.

Their punishment was a forfeit and a 3-0 victory awarded to Celtic.

If they had won 4-0 in the first leg, despite playing the suspended player, they would still be in the Champions League.

It's just unfortunate that we go through on away goals.

Legia dropping down into the Europa is a consequence of their mistake, NOT the punishment.

In 20 years you'll be talking to the younger generation about the time you almost made the champions league..
In the mean time, we'll just keep qualifying..

Maybe gb will send a message for our fallen comrades on our first champions league home game as the music rings out, a banner displaying 'wish you were here':bbpd:

Be a nice substitute for not being there..

Legia trounced us over 2 legs; I don't think anyone is saying otherwise. The stupidity of their management got them booted out for including a player in the 18-man matchday squad that was suspended which according to UEFA rules is an immediate forfeit. As much as it may be seen as harsh given the scoreline, the lad shouldn't have been in the squad (the time he spent on the pitch is irrelevant). As much as he had no influence over the game, if Legia aren't expelled, it sets a dangerous precedent.

For example, if a £25,000 to £50,000 fine is all that's received, what's to stop a rich team (for argument's sake, PSG) listing a suspended but star player (Ibra) amongst the substitutes and bringing him on with 5-minutes to go to exert his influence; and using the Legia case as an example, bullshitting their way through legal proceedings (i.e. "oh it was an admin error", "genuine mistake", "didn't know he was suspended", "didn't know he had to be registered") and getting away with a meagre fine. As much as it's a harsh shame; as much as I think it was a genuine error in the circumstances; and as much as I think most Celtic fans wouldn't have complained had Legia won the case given the trouncing it's a decision that has to be made to preserve the integrity of the rules.

As for Sion, you're being a bit of an idiot bringing them up in this case are you not? Sion were guilty of fielding multiple ineligible players during a transfer embargo, despite being told explicitly by UEFA that fielding them would see them subject to sanctions, which included potentially being kicked out of the competition. They decided "* it, ignore UEFA, we'll just appeal" and they were correctly booted out. In their case the 5 or 6 players probably made all the difference to the direction of the game.

You shot yourselves in the foot by overlooking basic paperwork and not understanding how suspensions work in Europe. This is not Celtics fault or eufa's or FIFA's fault. This is your club, Legia's fault entirely. I feel sorry for you guys to an extent but you made a mistake that's even uncommon in a Sunday league for * sake.

You did this to yourself, now go be angry at your coaching and administrative staff and quit expecting us to feel remorse when we did nothing.

UEFA aren't the appeal body. The draw doesn't matter here, it's just a matter of the tie between us and Legia, and who goes on. UEFA will have to fix the draws, if the appeal body decides in Legia's favor.
