Of the three Irish lads who signed around that time, I thought he had the best shot at making it here. Pity it didn't work out, but with Juranovic and Ralston ahead of him, this is for the best.

If asking simple questions has you flustered then I wouldn't want to prolong the stress for you. I am hence forth 'off you'. Proceed with talking *.

Another mind boggling transfer of a young player. Cant imagine the wage he was on or the fee Tranmere are looking to pay would have been major highly rated there and never got so much of a chance up here

Don’t really find it mind boggling, Ange clearly didn’t think he was good enough and is happy to let him go. Being highly rated for Tranmere is much different from playing for Celtic.

Hopefully a heft sell on fee on this one for us, just incase.

Good luck to him, remember being quite excited when he signed but he was never getting ahead of Ralston/Juranovic

I always got the impression he was homesick and didn't settle here, which is why he got loaned somewhere close to home and has ultimately signed for them.

    Are Tranmere close to Waterford?

I thought he had lived in Manchester for years with his family?

    * knows mate I just found it funny :giggle1:

Thought he’d probably joined them at 16 and be in the digs when he signed for the academy.

Was highly regarded at Man Utd and is well thought of in the Irish set up, so it is a bit surprising he never transferred any of that potential to minutes on the park for us.

Even in pre season he only played the last 20mins of the very first game I think then didn't feature again, whilst guys like Murray & Montgomery were getting a load of minutes in those games. Could well just be he wasn't cutting it but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a bit more to it.

I thought he had been there from pretty young, but I could be getting him mixed up for someone else.

Same people moaning about signing him wax lyrical about the great bit of business in signing frimpong. I had big hopes for him but it was clear after the summer he didn't have a future with us. He's definitely gone backwards under us you can see that even with the ireland u21s where he just hasn't kicked on. Although he did have elanga in his pocket few months ago who's now in the United first team. Best of luck to him hopefully can kick on now because there is a serious player there.

Unless you are very lucky (injuries etc) or different level of talent (frimpong) we aren't conducive with giving young players an opportunity and it's not necessarily the club's fault there is too much resting on all our games. In the English championship you could throw an 18/19 year old in play them all season, a 50% win rate and you could get promoted in the championship. If Ange had a 50% win rate he'd be packing up his stuff at lennoxtown

Definitely. I thought with his CV tho he would have made a wee bit more of an impact in the last couple of years. Even just more minutes in pre season. Total guesswork here and probably wrong but I'm inclined to go with him wanting back closer to Manchester and his attitude not being quite right as a result.

    On signing for them...

"I think I'm developing well here. To play your best football, you have to be happy as well, and I'm happy here."

That's me resolved it in my mind in any case haha

How, both came in as highly thought of academy prospects from big clubs. You could have argued O'Connor at the time was closer to the United first team than frimpong was to the city one. No one here knew when they both signed how well it would go for frimpong and how bad for O'Connor, that's football I suppose. How many players have we had in the club over past 20 years where it didn't work out and they went on to big things? Robertson and hickey spring to mind and they are just the fullbacks

Because one was brilliant and one was pish.

One is now at Leverkusen being tracked by Real Madrid and the other has signed for Tranmere Rovers in league 2.

It’s why there’s a difference in reaction to both players.
