I'm conflicted about this whole thing, like the eventual breakthrough of Ajer is wildly different but Ajer struggled for a time to get into the 11 at a point.

But there is certainly something strange here of he can't get ahead of Ralston.

 

Personally I think he's on the way out if the club. either on loan or transfer to somewhere like a tranmere or something. I don't believe it's down to the way he's training because his 30 mins v Wednesday and 20 mins v Preston was the best we looked at right back under Ange. For me I do think he needs to strengthen up a bit. I'd lik him to be guaranteed second choice to a new signing and have him playing frequently, plenty of domestic league/cup games where he could be rotated in

its weird how we treat young players at celtic

if your talented enough you should go up the ladder shouldnt matter about age, you want them to develop you dont hold them back

look at michael owen at liverpool im doubtfull if hed have been allowed to break through at celtic at 16/17 if hed been at us

we often see it down south young players at 17 breaking in to teams hardly ever happens here

he is nothing special and we should be looking for an experienced and established rb who first of all can defend, defend corners and set pieces
the position has been ropey for 5+ years even when we fudged Frimpong in.

for a left back I really liked meiling, as for a rb someone with pace, height and can tackle plenty on show at the euros to be picked up - lainer of Austria - he might be too dear now. it appears buta is edging closer - looks good going forward but 1-0/2-1 into the last 10 mins away to teams in the league can he mix it up, not make rash decisions and keep it tight at the back? we cannot afford to outscore teams this season and rely on wins - we need to be strong and stop conceding cheap goals, free kicks, corners etc.

 

I don't think there's a grand conspiracy to keep him out the team, same for Connell. When a few managers aren't impressed enough to have them playing then it prob means they are coming up short in training.

 

I was a big Melling fan as well and feel we really missed the boat on him. He went to Nimes for just 1m and although they were crap and got relegated from Ligue 1 last season he played well every time I saw them and sure enough transferred to a decent side in Rennes but again for only 3m.

 

I will say this about O'Connell I watched him play a lot in the Ireland U21 friendlies there at the end of last season and I must admit while he is tidy technically I was not impressed at all. O'Connor I just have not seen enough of recently but from what I had seen of Connor over the past couple of season he was the one player of that group of Irish U21's that I had real hopes for. I though this season he would at least be good enough to be our regular right back back up. But clearly Ange does not fancy him judging him by pre-season and lets face it when your playing second fiddle to Ralston times up and it is best I would think at this point for him to look for a move elsewhere.

Just remembered when we signed him he was supposed to be the next big thing... What has actually happened to him tht Ralston is ahead!

 

I know considering he was at Rosenborg where we got Lustig from as well I just never understood our failure to at least attempt to get Melling. You would think if we had of gone after him he would have jumped at the chance to play for us and obviously we would have been able to afford him as well. We really badly missed the boat with Melling no question.

 

If it's not gonna happen for him this season with us even as second choice to a signing. I'd like to see him battle and get into a spl team like st mirren and get a full season under his belt.

most irish players usually develop under the radar and blossom at 25-26 rather than 18-21 make big impressions - I think he will get frustrated this season and be sent out on loan to find his level.

 

When he was at United a lot of there fans were surprised he was sold, he had a lot of hype in their Academy if I remember correctly

 

Was hoping to see some of him and Luca connel around the first team this season. Hope they don't do the same as hjied and go elsewhere.

 

That's a great system we have sign players, pay them a couple of months loan them out, pay them another couple of months loan them again...
