I don't think the group stage the year before was much easier. Say what you want about Milan but they finished 8th in Serie A, and from watching both games against us, it's the worst Milan team I've ever seen. We just bottled it big time. Ajax are nothing special nowadays either.

Barcelona, Spartak Moscow and Benfica. That group was every bit as difficult as last years.

I think while our domestic system seems to be coming together. Yet to see any signs of one that will work in europe. If he plans on an all round system it could either go really well or be a disaster.

 

I'm with you Green and White. When Lawwell didnt keep Ledley or Samaras at the club Lennon decided to go. He is a top manager. If he was still here then we would not have had the results against Salzburg, Legia, and Maribour.

I would rather see us hold our own in the champions league than qualify from the Europa groups. Im not slagging the manager here but if truth be told we were lucky at times this year in europe.

As for on the pitch, it is no secret that i hate the 451/433 with no holding player and our full backs pushing on. It is tactically naive. Our european strategy is to try and batter teams. This simply doesnt work. We went ahead in 5 away ties this year in europe and didnt win any of these games.

My biggest concern is how much goal scoring chances teams have against us (in EVERY single game this season). We are like a drunk outside a nightclub we should learn to box. Lennon knew this, it seems RD doesnt.

 

Ronny is growing on me. There's been improvement in the team but it annoys me when people try and claim that we have gone forwards under him because that is complete and utter nonesense.

I like him I really hope he does well but still I'm not entirely convinced.

But still in 4 cups after Xmas and the results and now coming so hopefully the performances will pick it up and we can go on and score a few more

 

We were horrendous in the CL last year. Scored 3 and conceded 14 goals in 6 games ffs. Our away performance vs Ajax was a disgrace, as was our home game vs Milan. The only game where we played reasonably well was Barca at home.

The whole campaign was pretty embarrassing.

We where going backwards before Lenny left. this year was about stabilization and building for next year

 

Next half of the season will really define it. We could end the season with a domestic treble and a good run in Europe - dare I say it, a quadruple - or we could crash out of the cups and stagger across the finish line in the league. If it's the former, no one's going to give a flying * about crashing out of the Champions League.

 

I completely agree. I've enjoyed this season a lot more than Lennon's last, so far.

That's nonsense mate. No way can you judge a team on their results in the Nou Camp. Barca can rip anyone apart in the Nou Camp on their day.

Although I would agree that between 12/13 and 13/14 seasons, we did go backwards.
