One thing that I felt about tonight's game was the complete lack of pace in general.

Also Celtic are very poor when the ball is in the air.
Well drilled fit sides have no problem in taking them apart when they up the tempo.
One more window when he signs the players he wants, not what Desmond or Park wants, and if there is not considerable improvement, time for him to move on.

Its tough for Deila- 2million spent in the summer and 5 loan signings. Coming from a fairly local team in stromsgodset to the worldwide team that is celtic was always gona take time. Id say though if he comes as good as Johansen has then we will be alright. He has a style he sticks to- and to be fair 7 wins in a row before tonight has seen progress, we missed Brown, Forrest, Denayer, Lustig and Guidetti tonight so end of the season for me is when I will judge. Though if he beats sevco in febuary then I might revise that :celt_2:

One step forward, half a step back.

We're making progress but its very slow and from a very low starting point.

I think this next transfer window will be crucial for Deila ... the progress has been slow ... painfully slow! but there has been progress. We did only spend 2million in the summer and 5 loan signings so there doesn't seem to be much stability within the squad as we don't know who'll be there come next season. For me there just doesn't seem to be a great deal of quality in the squad ... realistically I'd say we're 3/4 real quality players away from being good enough for the group stages of the champions league, and that's provided some of our better players don't get snapped up before then. Whether big Peter Lawwell gives him the funds for those players is another matter entirely ... but yeah based on tonights performance and Salzburg at home I can't see any team in the last 32 being particularly anxious about drawing us.

I think the easiest way to evaluate how he is doing is to ask how would Lenny be doing at this stage of the season with the exact same group of players. Be honest.

We'd be struggling just as much.

We would have been out of either the Scottish cup or the league cup....

Hand on heart I have to agree ... something tells me Lennon would have had a harder side to break down that Deilas. Especially defensively

Agree. Found Lenny's style of play boring but until the last year, most of the time effective in Europe. However he set up the Team one way to play in the SPL and then shut up shop for the likes of Barcelona. Unless he suddenly changes, Ronny's Teams are only set up to play one way .... open, pressing football. If we were playing Ross County on a Saturday and then Barcelona in the following midweek, Ronny wouldn't change the set up his Team and a goal fest would reign.... and not for us.

    Deila:
"What we have to think about is what kind of formation we will play and how we play when we play away in Europe," he said.
"This game we were more offensive than maybe we should have been.
"The team spirit has to be much better and we need to be more compact as a team.
"Away in Europe, you really need to be compact and aggressive and you have to keep concentration for 90 minutes and, if you don't, you will get punished like we did today."

For those who are in love.....
Was really naive, stubborn or both tonight..

Why persist with players not doing the business and leave out those who do?
Why drop players back into positions there poor in and a standout performer in the one he's been playing for weeks?
Why not make changes when we're wide open and getting overrun and sliced open in the middle of the park time and time again?

Grifiths and a midfield 3 of bitton, kayal and johansen woulda been much more solid with energy and pace going both ways ..

Tactially it looked like we changed nothing tonight which was disappointing, Henderson was playing right of a 3 was he not when he came on?
Grifiths shoulda started or tonev over Mcgregor and in hindsight Matthews shoulda or should now be benched for fisher on Sunday..

Defensively we are as bad as i can ever remember, individually our defence at full strength matches up well across Europe in my opinion but collectively as a team it's so disjointed and out of sorts, so fragile ..
Massive work in January to be done to make progress in this tournament..

I know we were missing key players tonight and i still see us progressing overall but tonight was bad as..

Absolutely. I am concerned at how inflexible our manager seems to be. At this stage of the season i am genuinely worried about next seasons qualifiers.

How many away games have we been ahead in europe this season?

    How many have we won?

Is this the 4th time we have conceded 3 in europe this season and the 2nd time we have conceded 4?

The man needs to be more conservative away in europe. I honestly reckon it will cost him his job in the long run.

I hope he becomes more flexible with his tactics if/when we bring more players in of his choosing. Attacking football is great and everything but winning is even better

Really really want to like him and keep giving him the benefit of the doubt but it's hard when his teams never have a good structure and the football for me is abysmal, out with the Dundee utd game I've not enjoyed one home game this season, and with his constant tinkering and refusing to play 2 strikers no matter who or where we're paying worries me.

Have the BBC just done a 'copy & paste' job from Ronny's post match interview after the Legia game cos it's soo familiar? Apart from that hasn't Ronny learned anything from that game or has the penny now dropped.

I was such a Fan of his when he came but he's losing me with his 'wise after the event' comments. Anyway, I'm assuming he realised this at half time and issued instructions to play tighter.....lasted, what? 2 minutes into the 2nd half. He's coming up with excuses for his poor tactics. Not impressed Ronny.

Exactly id take a strachan grinding a 1 nil result than a 4-3 defeat. It seems Ronny Delia doesn't though.

Maybe he just wanted to play offensive tonight because the match didn't mean much at all? Imagine trying to motivate the players: "Lads, I know this match means fuckall, but we need 11 players behind the ball at all times and stop them from scoring by any means possible."

OK but he could have said 'OK Lads, we've qualified, so let's play a different way, cos they'll be expecting us to play an open and pressing game. Let's plan for the KO stages when we're going to face tougher opposition. Let's keep it tight, frustrate them and play on the counter.'
