No doubt. Much was questioned around Larsson winning the golden boot since he played in the SPL but he did it at Barcelona and at Man United where Alex (I wont say Sir) asked him to stay on. He was no doubt the number one striker of the last decade. Not just for Celtic but in the world. Who else has accomplished what he has and did it consistently. The ones who did get close had teams around them worth high millions. Henke is the man. "We have henrik, we got Bobo, Barry Fergusons a *"

Laudrup was a good attacking player and undoubtedly was a fine footballer,,but never proved himself world class,,henke was quite simply world class and bet
ween his time with us and barca I honestly think he was the best striker in the world......

Couple people doing Lubo a bad turn here.

Most naturally gifted footballer I've seen at Parkhead and he did it consistently against the huns and in European games i.e. the Juventus game at Parkhead he was head and shoulders above anything the Italians had.

Don't get me wrong Laudrup was good but he was good for the huns and that's pretty much it, he did nothing either before or after.

Think everyones summed this up. Larsson better in almost all respects apart from going around players. Everything backs this up, and what stands out as well for me is what his peers said about him. The likes of Ronaldinho, Alex Ferguson and Thierry Henry praised him through the roof.

The question should be who was better Di Canio, Lubo or Laudrup and Brian may have a case there.

I've been saying this since Lubo left paradise! If we had Lubo on our books when they had Laudrup they wouldn't have got near their 9iar, imagine the team Di Canio, Cadete, Van Hooijdonk, Andy Thom, McStay and Lubo.

To quote BBJ Henrik was a freak, a one off people aslo forget Henrik was out for near enough a full season with a broken leg and still became the legend he is today.

    Laudrup or Larsson?

Magnificent 7 all day long for me! :50:

Gaccoigne was a better player than Laudrop in my opinion, proved himself at every lavel but Henrik is no.1

    1.Larsson
    2.Gascoigne
    3.Di Canio
    4.Laudrop

    * Gazza he'd be about 10th on my list. John Collins was better than him :bbpd:

Oh aye and how many players won a European Cup? Only people I know was Larsson and Lambert and Lamberts not even been mentioned yet! I believe according to Zidane, Paul Lambert was the best Defensive Midfielder he'd ever played against. May be wrong there but I'm sure he said something along those lines :50:

    [edit]
Ahem forgot the De Boer twins and probably a few more but you get my drift.

Laudrup was extremely good. Biggest compliment I can pay him is, that in my time watchin Celtic, no other player caused me to panic as much whenever they picked up the ball as he did. I used to * myself all the time, thinkin he was going to do damage. Henrik was a league above him though. And that's not being biased. I guarantee you, that if you asked neutrals, a vast majority would say Larsson.

He was decent at Bayern but he was that bad at Fiorentina when they were relegated he left the stadium in the boot of a car to get away from the baying fans.

As someone else has said (and I know it won't be a popular thing to say) but Gazza was a far more talented footballer, capable of genius.

David May won the European Cup. Does that make him a great player?
If Dortmund had lost that final against Juve, would that make Lambert a lesser player?

David May was a decent squad player in a simply outstanding side. Paul Lambert marked Zinedine Zidane (up there with Maradona and Pele imo) out of the game.

Not saying there aren't * players that have won it but generally speaking those that play in the finals are top notch. I think you're missing my point:

    PAUL * LAMBERT

Henrik and Lubo are the 2 best ive seen in my lifetime and CP obviously never saw Jinky though so some of the older ones could maybe set us straight on that. I think Laudrup was quality but nothing on those two for me. Maybe the green tinted glasses but they could carry the team against quality oppisition almost single handedly ie Juve in CL and Porto in Uefa cup final.

I agree, Paul Lambert was a top class player. I rate him very highly, but a 1 off performance, whether it was on Zidane or not, has little or no bearing on how i rate him overall.

In Celtic terms, Lambert was a legend. Very good player for us.
In World terms, he doesn't really feature at all, whereas players like Larsson and Gazza do.

I agree with you ,i thought gazza was a brilliant player ,sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say things like that ,he came across like a clown etc ,but when he played at his peak he was unplayable at times .

Cant believe youve not even mentioned the one true great in Scottish football. Proved himself with not 1 but 2 SPL teams, and was a constant torment to managers across Scotland. Lightening quick, great feet, tremendous vision and a hard * into the bargain

    MOMO SYLLA!!!!!!!!!!!

Would rather not judge Paul Lambert on one performance. I do actually think he was World Class, that final was just cast-iron proof.

Fact is he will never get the recognition of your Gazzas and Laudrups due to him being a 'negative' player. I am digressing but the defensive midfield role is as important to the team as it is underrated.

Yes Gazza had undoubted talent, but it's funny you mention one off performances as that's all Gazza had. Flashes of utter brilliance but a career of unfulfilled potential and at times disaster. Don't rate him and hate the *, it'll take more than Euro 96 to convince me otherwise.

Larsson hands down, then Lubo, then Sutton and a few others from the MON era before anyone, including Laudrup.
