Deadline day signings in the pipeline....Glenn Loovens year-long loan deal and resign Willo Flood on a pay as you play deal.

Still over a week to go lads. I like it when there’s no speculation and a transfer is done quietly so we don’t get let down if it falls through. I’m hoping that’s what the situation is and we’ll get some new faces with some dross leaving :50:

    So do I.

Instead it's public that we've now tried and failed to get 2 SPFL players...1 an alleged fan of the club. Shambles.

Even if they go out and get us the strong RB and CB we need, they should still be criticised for how long it's taken and how it's potentially cost us Champions League qualification and completely ruined the feel-good factor at the club.

If they don't get the finger out in the next week then I think things might turn nasty.

Lads and lasses I’m * angry with our * around in the transfer market this window: McGinn bid failed - then galling to watch him go to my second most hated team.

Now we bid 3.5 million for McKenna - a promising U21 Scottish centre half at the perennial second best team in Scotland - and it’s refused - we end interest rather than offer more? They quote us 10 million when 5 or 6 would seal the deal.

The board are * useless man.

We’re running a dangerous game here because without a new CB we’re inviting pressure - there’s no way Hendry, Jozo, a want-away Boyata, Lustig, Gamboa, Ajer can be trusted in that defence domestically and in Europa League. Not at all. No.

Don’t trust one of them. Only trust KT.

Same old penny pinching * board - from a position of strength. If they don’t sort this out in this window I might just vote with my eyes - I’m an expat living in Germany now - a former season ticket holder - but it sickens me that we have our best manager since MoN and we can’t give him enough money to strengthen key positions.

People are saying but hang on the window ain’t closed yet - but come on - McGinn and McKenna failed bids - top 2 targets dead in the water. Anything now would be a panic buy. Get the * finger out for * sake!!!

That does add to the frustration. Compared to this situation we find ourselves in, just one really decent CB signing and we'd probably still be in Champions League with 9/12M on our tail with letting the donkey Boyata go as well (plus we'd have the bonus of not being humilated by Boyata either).

More moans- AEK were totally there for the taking and totally doable.

About the only thing we've got right this summer, he should never have been considered in the first place. £5 or £6 million for a guy that was on loan at Ayr United 18 months ago and not even making the starting XI would be utter lunacy

It's pretty clear McGinn was a top target. McKenna would simply be a panic buy.

Both scream Lawwell putting in bids he knew would be rejected so that he could come out and say he tried and try to take the heat off him when he collects his next big bonus cheque.

He is the single biggest obstacle holding us back from improving as a team. He needs hunted.

Remember when people said we have plenty of time to bring someone in at the start of the window.

Then it’s we have 5/6 weeks left, then it was 3 weeks left and now it’s ok we have plenty of time to bring someone in cause we have a week left.

Some * will never learn or wake up.

At best we will panic buy and bring in another Compper.

Utter * disgrace that the club and the management have not brought in a replacement for Armstrong, a right back, centre half (I would have liked two) and another holding or box to box centre mid (McGinn mold)

I really do fear for this season.

At the end of may the board where riding a crest of a wave, double treble, open top bus parade, fans happy, manager stating he has never been happier and they did what they always do they take everyone for granted, for the last 2 summers they have got into the UCL and built up a decent cash balance and paid some decent wages for the players we currently have.

Players came back from pre-season and looked good.

    Alashkert - dispatched with ease
    Rosenborg - Dispatched with ease
    Livingston - destroyed

John McGinn then moves to Villa - people going on like we missed out on Iniesta (in his pomp) then we draw 1-1 with AEK
then AEK beat us 2-1 and all 3 goals the same player was involved Mika - clearly we identified Pinicci to replace Mika - board failed again - I feel what our board will see as an achievement this summer is keeping all our "assets" rather than adding to the squad.

I was one of those who said in the middle of July got plenty of time but by 2 weeks ago I realised we where done for signings in this window, the league will be tougher and when the board come out and hold the balance sheet up in a few weeks with the headline of record turnover, record sponsorship we can all say hey we have that and some nice lights!

Mackem was trying to persuade me we should bid for Loovens over the summer til I reminded him he's already played for us; so I know all about Glenn Loovens.

You would have offered them £6m? Jesus Christ, I think you could say he is promising but we don't need promising right now, we need an experienced double hard * at the back. Aberdeen are trying to build McKenna up to get a sale but eventually they will cave as he will ask to leave and I doubt an English club will pay £5m for McKenna.

I'm confused here, You start out by saying 6 or 7 million would be lunacy and yet end by having a go at the board/Lawwell for offering bids that would be rejected. So do you think we should have backed the manager more ? As it seems pretty clear BR rates McKenna, even though the majority on here don't reckon he is worth what we offered, far less that amount, including you.
As for McGinn I was * off that we didn't get McGinn, as it looked like we didn't back the manager, until Lion posted that McGinn seemingly wanted assurances that, if fit, he would start .. so * him.
If I'm honest here it seems one of the problems, and its a big one, is BR simply struggles with defenders.

Such a promising start to the summer too.. Rogic long-term contract signed, Edouard permanent move breaking our transfer record..

Then the McGinn debacle, defeat and abject performance at the Wee Huns that highlighted the mediocrity in our squad, CL exit, Boyata debacle and now McKenna..

Someone started a thread about Celts4Change2.. if we finish the window in this predicament it's becoming a valid argument..

    Farcical

I honestly can't imagine McGinn asking for assurances that he would start before Ntcham and Brown.. PL * the deal up end of..I couldn't see it at first, but we only sprang into action when he was at Villa having a medical..we * it.

The reason we're bidding on McKenna is because we've failed to land targets ahead of him, reading between the lines of Rodgers comments that's pretty clear.

I've been critical of Rodgers, it's worrying that we are interested but then how many recommendations have we missed out on before him? I'm going to give Rodgers the benefit of the doubt here and say he wasn't a top target and that Lawwell is now trying to look likes he's trying after months of doing absolutely nothing. While I don't want McKenna even at £3.5million I also don't want our CEO wasting time putting in bids that he knows will be rejected.

We're in this position because the board have failed to act promptly and get the business done early. It's the hallmark of our business under Lawwell, basically every transfer, loan, contract extension turns into a saga, it's a complete embarrassment for a club of our size.

The issue here isn't about McGinn or McKenna, they are just symptomatic of the way we conduct our business and it's about time it was challenged.

I wouldn't have imagined that either however I don't imagine Lion would post something, from a source, that he didn't trust/believe in 100%. So that changed my opinion of that whole mess.

There is no need to read between the lines, BR comments have been posted, he wants quality not quantity. So unless we are going to believe he is just lying then we need to take them for what they are. So wherever Mckenna comes on his list of targets he is quality in BR opinion. I have no idea how many targets we have missed out on, so maybe BR has identified players that would have improved us, however based on the defenders he has identified/signed already I don't think they will all have been much better than what he has signed, which is worrying.
Lawwell put bid/s in for McKenna because BR wanted him simple as that mate. So we should now all be raging that he (Lawwell) hasn't kept increasing the bids but no-one is .. that is telling. The board are capable, at times, of acting promptly - Edouard, Rogic, KT.
I just don't see how any one part is exclusively at fault here - its down to Board/Scouts/BR ALL need their baws booted in similar measure here imo.
