I do agree they need to spend, I'm just pointing out that the stupid * saying is overdone.
This wouldn't shock me, even if we had a couple of decent runs in the next couple of years, eventually we will be closed out. Even clubs like PSV and Ajax will be too.

whoever is in charge of transfers has let mulgrew, ambrose, sviatchenko, izzy,O'Connell leave the last couple of years every one of them would improve our defensive options

    Would’ve kept Mulgrew - he’s a Tim, he’s a great set piece taker and a good defender.

    Disagree on efe I’m afraid.

Suggested keeping O’Connell in another thread but got shot down.

Izzy was bizarre but understand he wanted a big pay day. Erik was also strange, must’ve been some sort of fallout though?

Mulgrew, Ambrose and O'Connell weren't good enough. Izzy wanted first team football. Sviatchenko is better than Hendry but just suffered a loss of form for a while and never seemed to recover. Still would have liked to have seen him stick around, if only as a back up.

It’s dofficutl not to be frustrated at this stage, the fact we haven’t strengthened the defence is almost comical at this stage, particularly due to the fact we’ve been hit with two of our top defenders being given extra leave due to WC duties, injuries and suspensions.

We still have two very tricky ties to navigate to make the CL, but imo strengthening the defence shouldn’t be reliant on qualification for the CL just now. It should’ve been done earlier in the season, so that we had a much more settled back line going into the later CL qualifiers.

Some additional quality in the back four would make a huge difference to this side, as we’re pretty set from midfield going forward, with the possible exception of another wide player.

Whoever let O'Connell go is a headcase.

The managers comments regarding new additions is worrying.

What the * are the board playing at, we are sitting on a big pile of cash but can't even bring in players, we really struggled to break teams down last year and have since lost Armstrong and Roberts but haven't replaced them.

Basically the same team as last year, doubt our new pitch is going to change those 10 draws in the league into wins.

It's all fine though we have new lights and have the chance to BUY the new PES and BUY 3 new strips, fans spend a fortune yet we've hardly spent a coin (net).

Those are fair points mate ,we have become masters of book balancing , be nice to become masters of our own fate and have the vision to go into these games at our strongest ,not having to have this fear every year .
We have been through this enough times to try to be ahead of the game by planning the year before ,if we are running the club like a business then thats wot most companies do ,our problem lies in the fact that we seem to buy young epl players who cant get into their teams ,they lack game experience ,why cant we buy a tough cb from europe ,doesnt need to be a world beater ,a solid dependable organizer.
I think mcginn could play a vital role in europe for us as a ball winner and dragging us forward also , I would like to see ralston get a run of games to see if he can step up ,if not ,I like gamboa but he lacks height and I feel nervous of his control at times ,the ball broke off him a few times in bad areas ,luckily no Rosenberg player was close enough to take it ,but he has played well ,better than I expected .we need cover there ,still have my fingers crossed on paddy but its a long shot and cant really see it happen .

Definitely. Or can be someone considered surplus to requirements at a big team. Italy and germany are leagues where player prices are less inflated, compared to England. We should go there more often.

Mulgrew is decent and would of been worth keeping around as he will always give 100%. The rest I not so sure.
If we knew Jozo, Boyata, Compper and Lustig were not gonna be back for the 3rd round qualifiers then with hindsight, we should have held onto Erik for a while longer and maybe sold him nearer the end of the window.

    He is not a miss.

I dunno why his name is even being brought up. He can't get a game for Bury ffs.

Brendan keeps saying he is waiting on quality.... he signed * Compper ffs :56:

We might have to deal with the fact Brendan can’t spot a defender.
    Same as O’Neill with goalkeepers.

As much as the defense might need strengthened , we still have Boyata,Jozo and Lustig to come back into the fold as well as Ajer and Hendry so there's some quality there and at least stronger competition for places who have been over the course.

The wide areas is a concern and think we could come a cropper trying to break teams down again with only really Forrest and Sinclair as "trusted" options but Sinclair has been off it for months and we can't keep relying on forrest all the time , Hayes i don't think is good enough and Morgan and Johnston are relatively untested might be alright for some spl games though we need stronger competition for places.

A replacement for Armstrong and Roberts where supposed to be coming in weeks ago then looking at other areas yet still nothing.

Time to get some signings in and add fresh life to the team and really kick on as we can't stand still and just assume no challenge from the huns.

The thing is Rangers will be more of a threat this year and I am sure of it. It is sad that you see them going for 3m defenders and we just refuse.
I have defended Celtic's wait until you get the right player in, but there is nothing linking us with any player of merit. We signed Eddy and Bain, who we had last season and links with McGinn but until Hibs are out of Europe he will be with them.

The huns won't concede as many goals this season as they did last, so they have a starting block against other spl teams to keep in contention , but i still think we will overwhelm them middle to front but that's not the point we need to get some signings in and for Europe.

I am confident we will win the title, but we have to get more points than last season to confirm it. However if their defence is stronger I do expect their scoring rate to go down, last season they went so far forward they conceded loads.
However the league starts tomorrow, Europe is about to get tough and we are not stronger than a year ago apart from arguments about Ajer and Edouard being stronger. I felt like I have held out patience for 2 months but at this point it is not good.

The thing is it's important to do well in Europe for our fan base. Celtic is a club that's known far and wide and when we don't become regulars in Europe our brand somewhat diminishes. Meaning we are valued less, less money. Being strong in Europe is essential to the club. The board have money for hotels, standing sections, new pitches but none for an actual formidable team that can bring in 40M a year in revenue? Does a pitch bring in that? A hotel at the stadium? No they don't.
