Forgot La Liga does the matches between tied teams to decide. But the point still stands, although slim, Barca aren't completely out of it.

True they only need to win 2 games to finish atleast 2nd but if Real Madrid win their next 2, it would mean if Barca beat Atletico then Real Madrid would only have to win their game to win the League.

It would be a very tricky position.

Barca may go 1 goal up then nurse it until the end and if Real are winning, let Atletico score if Atletico only need a draw to pip Real at the death. Just incase Real arent winning and Barcelona only need to win.

No not totally, but they need a bit of a miracle. Unless they can win the league then I can't see them beating atletico.

Especially considering how the television money is carved up in Spain. It's not as if Barcelona have anything to lose financially by finishing third rather than second, do they?

Is it not something like 100m euros of a difference between Barca and Real to Atletico?

Yeah they'd much rather finish third if that meant Real Madrid don't win the title I'd of thought. I'm sure their fans would be thinking like that too. Whatever the outcome, 2nd or 3rd it's been a terrible season for the club, on and off the pitch.

Both Barcelona & Real pick up €140 million each, whilst the closest is Atletico & Valencia on €42 million.

The rest work downwards from €29 million.

This is all decided regardless of where you finish in the league, which is * insane.

I understand that Real and Barcelona are the bigger selling points of La Liga but to have that much of an imbalance is crazy. Was there not also a land issue with the stadiums that meant they actual paid less money or something?

I'm not sure about that, but you're right, it is mental. There's a lot about Spain that leaves you scratching your head.

Why not offer the top cash to those teams who finish higher up the table? It's mental.

Just found the article. It was favourable land deals for Real by the Madrid council. Real and Barca, as well as Ossasuna and Bilbao were excempt from PLC taxes as they were under fan ownership.

Had Real Madrid no scored that 90th minute equaliser Barcelona would of been in charge of the title race.

We should just let Atletico win on the final day. * helping those * win a league.

Absolutely fuming at that Ronaldo goal. Without it (assuming all teams won their games in hand before the final day) then you'd have the perfect scenario of a barca win = barca title, atletico win = atletico title, draw between barca and atletico= real title. If if came to it, Barca would 100% lie down to Altetico on the last day to let them win the league, will be really odd.

Sorry Rory but you have that one wrong. If we're assuming Real win their next two and Barca and Atletico win their second last games, then Ronaldo's goal has only made any difference at all to Barca's chances, not Atletico's.

Atletico would need a point whether Ronnie scored or not, A Barca win would put them level with Atletico but with a better head to head so at least a draw is required for Atletico anyway. Should it finish in a draw and Real win their game then Atletico would pip Real on head to head. All Ronaldo's goal has done is ensure that Barca can't win the title without another slip up from Real.

Here's a brain hurter. As someone else said, if everyone wins their games before the end then Barca can't get the title. So, as pointed out they'd be as well if Real were a few up laying down to Atletico. That means it'd be in Real's interest not to go more than a goal up. With the hope of Real not winning Barca would drive for the title, make Real's game a foregone result at any point before the final and Barca would be as well not bothering against Atletico and giving them the league.

Correct. Got my maths spectacularly wrong there, pretty poor considering I'm an accountant!

It's going to be really interesting to see what happens on the final day assuming they all win their games before then. I'm also of the opinion that there's no way Barca would try to beat Atletico if they knew it would hand Real the title - therefore it means Real's best chance of winning is if they make sure they don't go more than a goal or so up against Espanyol. Going to be really interesting...

Lionel Messi is set to pay the Spanish authorities €35m to settle his tax case, according to every sport section in Spain. Explains why he looking for yet more cash before signing a new deal.
