its a weird situation ,i can only guess his new agents have been filling his head with nonsense and the only interest they could muster is a french side in a relagation battle .i just dont get the motavation for this move perhaps they were the only ones willing to pay the fee ,im surprised ange hasnt taken a punt on him too

I thought Ange should have taken Kyogo to Tottenham too when he left. It might have solved some of his troubles.

And as an aside, I can't help feeling though, there is bad blood between Ange and James Maddison somehow, same situation we saw here with Giokoumakis.

That always causes friction in a dressing room.

    What a complete * show.

kyogo’s agent needs a good kick to the swingers!

Going to a club that’s lost 5 in a row, in a relegation battle and likely to sack the manager before he even kicks a ball for them.

If he’s got any sense, he flys back with Jota and then bags a couple at Villa park on Wednesday evening.

    * sake we better have the Jota deal done.

    * will end up sacking Sampaoli and not want to let players leave in case new manager wants them.

He's hired a new agent to get this move. I think this is at Kyogo's instignation. He's not interested in being here. The problem is there is only so good a deal a 30 year old will get.

i dont get the motavation to join rennes ,i mean how much more money is he gonna get to join a relagation battle .he may well have fancied a change and had asked to leave to explore his options . its all so similar to the giakomakis situation cant fault the club moving as they did the only winner in this circumstance is his agent and rennes getting a quality player for the relagation dog fight

From an agents perspective, could be a wage bump and a release clause if relegated. That way he gets more money and a profile if they stay up and some type of bonuses; or they get signing fees, wage jump and then free transfer in the summer. Seems like solid business for us, player and agency. Big gamble from Rennes though...

Pure speculation though! Maybe he just wanted out for some personal reason, and this was the most solid path...

aye its hard to know with all the theoretical money swishing back and forth with the jota deal a relagation release clause may well be in play

Think he'll do very well over there. Been a fantastic player for us but the time and money are probably right. If it was during Ange's spell I would be more gutted but he's never really hit the same heights under BR.

As good as he was for us he only scored 3 in 19 Champions League games which is a pretty poor return.

I can't help but feel we should have went for 2 strikers in the summer and sold then. Love the wee guy to bits but head was turned then and I get keeping him for champions league etc. But having that freshness might have worked too.
    Suppose that's the gamble

I’m shocked so many people outwith the club seem to be so critical of this. A 30 year old who whilst is still our best striker hasn’t been great now for about 18 months who wants away and there’s £10m on the table.

In an ideal world we’d keep him until the end of the season but if he wants away now then best to let him go while that offer is there. The club have clearly also been expecting it so (maybe naively) trusting that there’s a plan in place and we won’t be left short. All the noise suggests that is the case though.

Were you the one who did the same thing with Efe when we sold Virgil? I still chuckle at that all these years later.

In the meantime, Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi has joined the ranks for the reception of Strasbourg, Sunday February 2 (5:15 p.m.) at Roazhon Park. The officialization of his signing, which will take place, has been delayed mainly because of Celtic Glasgow, who wanted to coincide this departure with the announcement of Jota's arrival in Scotland.

According to our information, Rennes paid around 10 million euros to recruit Furuhashi, and will recover a little more than 8 million euros on the transfer of Jota.
