To be fair, Rodgers got £9m to spend on Idah in the summer. At that cost, you’d have to think he was brought in with the idea he would take over from Kyogo. So Rodgers may well be content if we get Jota.

Can remember one time we signed a guy after 3 goals in 39 his previous club, having been highly rated doing it at other places a year or two before. Broke a transfer fee, that was Sutton.

Bit of a non-sequitur reply there but point is I don’t care what he done at Rennes or in Saudi Arabia. He’s a player I know his talent and what he’s capable of inside out, and can judge it from what I know he can do.

You can’t quantify asking would I be excited, with the qualifier of if I discount everything I’ve seen him do well and witnessed his quality.

because the reason I am happy is because of watching his quality.

Was wondering why maeda looked * off all night, he usually just bounces back up after every tackle. He probably knew his pal is leaving him

He wanted away last summer and we've managed to convince him to stay thru the group stage no doubt with the promise he could go this month.

Would you rather the club went back on that promise and kept an unhappy player for another 5 months?

If he wants to leave for a relegation dogfight in * Ligue 1 then that's his mistake not the club's

£9.5m, the extra .5m being important there. Because that made it break the record fee. Engels got a bigger one shortly afterwards. But BR made it clear Idah was the guy he wanted, and to go get him overpaying or no. The fact we did, and it was overpaid and I think from fans to the board we all knew it, it’s a sign of backing the manager.

Kyogo leaving I think he’ll not want to leave it Idah and probably Maeda for CF. It’ll be interesting to see what he goes for though, we needed wingers. If Kyogo swaps with Jota, it’ll be interesting if he still goes for other wingers wanting Maeda up top or if it’s a straight replacement striker, with Maeda competing with Kuhn/Jota

    This.

It’s an excellent bit of business from the club.

Many thanks for the brilliant memories Kyogo, you certainly lit up our lives in your short time with us, good luck in France.

Aye I’d be amazed if we were to spend big (for us anyway) on another striker if I’m honest.

Officially, it was 'undisclosed', but rumours put it around the £4m mark.

There must be some financial package on the table to entice the little man over.

Why else would you swap CL knockouts, domestic dominance and fan adulation for a relegation battle?

I'd imagine he's getting a fair whack of a wage. I wouldn't be surprised if he's nearly doubling it. Rennes seem to have a bit of money behind them and spent big last summer.

So gutted to see the wee man go, so many memories and stunning goals - especially against the Huns.
His positivity, amazing attitude and work ethic also so infectious that it spread through the team.

Good luck and best wishes from everyone at Celtic, YNWA.

What a player he’s been the last 3 and a half years, especially the first two seasons. Big time player , hun slayer as well .
Has been a privilege to watch him . Hope he smashes it in france . Just wish he had stayed till the summer , jota coming back definitely softens the blow .

By all accounts, Hatate and Maeda are very friendly and close. I don’t think Kyogo is as friendly with them as what people think. Hatate mentioned that in an article that was posted back in Japan during preseason.
