Rennes hope to seal a deal for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi today.

The Ligue 1 club are closing in on a £10m deal for the Japan international.

Speaking at a press conference today, Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli said: “We hope that the deal will be completed today for Kyogo - and if it is the case - he could have minutes at Monaco.

“He is a player that we wanted ardently and who can bring us depth."

Kyogo is keen to move to a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues after a conversation with Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu, who has previously publicly criticised the quality of the Scottish Premiership

 

I hope your right...can see Jota coming in and Maeda moved in to Kyogos role, but I do think we need another striker in anyway.

Quite a bitter sweet thing this transfer, feels like the end of an era. Absolutely loved the wee man during his time at Celtic, some of the goals he scored against the Huns were absolutely class. But my gut does actually say it’s maybe the right time for everyone on the condition a good replacement is brought in.

Is Kvitsgardeen an out and out striker? Or would we be more likely to target a kind of big strong striker with good hold up play?

I still don’t really know much about the guy tbh, but I know a few on here rate him highly.

Would have been gutted if this was a year ago, but I’m not overly bothered to be honest. His work rate is superb, but his finishing has been honking most of the season.

I wanted to go to Celtic Park this spring and see the wee man in action. This hurts my soul. Yes, Sampaoli seems like he really wants Kyogo, which bodes well for the tactical setup, but Kyogo will be all alone in France. All the Japanese players are in Reims and Monaco.

I know it's selfish as *, but part of me hopes they realize he has a dodgy shoulder and call everything off.
