So we are criticising the wingers now?

    What one in particular?

Maeda who has arguably been out best player over the last 12 months or Khun who has been best player this season?

There is also a far bigger picture here beside the goals. Kyogo isn't offering anywhere near enough in general play. Being a defender or a midfielder playing in that game on Thursday when you are being pressed as hard as that, having a striker who doesn't show for the ball must be a * nitemare.

Been a lot of us criticising wee Kyogo recently and mostly it's been justified, he's not been at his best clearly. But this wee Ryan * was this poison vendetta against him us * hilarious. The absolute worst of the worst kind of fan, no intention of trying to be balanced, just pure aggression against one of the best strikers we've had this century. It's pathetic man.

I wouldn't be against us going back to a 4-2-3-1, with traditional overlapping fullbacks when Tierney signs but I don't want Kyogo anywhere near the 10 role. He's not good enough on the ball to play that role and I think that's somewhere we could play McCowan to really good effect. Or better yet, go out and buy a really talented number 10.

Kyogo hasn't been good enough over the last 18 months. Well, he certainly hasn't hit the standard he was playing at under Ange. He's been an excellent signing overall and one of the best strikers we've had since Larsson. I don't think he does enough in games to properly fit into what Rodgers is trying to do and if it's not working, you need to think about a change.

If there was an offer on the table for him and he was keen to explore it, I probably would let him. I think if the rumours are true of high end 7 figure bids, potentially rising to 8 figure bids, you simply can't ignore that sort of offer, for a player who just doesn't quite fit into what we are trying to do here and is starting to push on in his career.

Kvistgaarden, as many have said on this thread, is exactly the sort of player we should be targeting to replace Kyogo with. He's similar in that he can be flexible where he plays but he's played through the middle this season for Brondby and he's absolutely flying. He's the replacement for the wee man.

ive been critical of the slow side to side passing ,ive already said it takes too long to get the ball to the wingers at which point the opposition box is full of defenders ,how are they even supposed to find a pass to kyogo, idah or anyone else we may sign up against 3 or 4 defenders .ultimitely they cant step inside and it goes backways and sideways again .at this point you reduced to pumpimg hopeful balls into the box or relying on someone with incredible movement to find some space . that is our two striker options . kyogo is constanty showing for the ball no one is brave enough to play it to him when they can just pass it back to ccv or scales

Hard to be critical of the style of play when up until Thursday we had only 1 defeat all season, have scored 79 goals in 28 games and had only conceded 4 goals in the league all season.

There's been a fair few knee * reactions to Thursday but criticising the overall style of play all season is a bit over the top don't you think?

Said they many times but will say it again. We don't regularly play long balls over the top, whether that's bcoz guys like Scales don't have the ability/confidence to do it or bcoz the manager doesn't want them playing that way.i don't know, but the sooner Kyogo * wises up to it and stops making several of the same runs each game that we arnt looking for the better it would be. He would have been far far more helpful to his teammates on Thursday if he recognised they were under pressure due to the huns pressing, and actually showed for the ball rather then running behind people.

Could go back and forth on this all day mate but bottom line is Kyogo needs to do more, on the ball, off the ball and in terms of his goal contribution. Personally I don't think he's capable of it and it's time the guy we spent all summer chasing and spent £9m on was given a proper opportunity to show if he can do it better.

Kyogo has been a brilliant striker for us and a great signing for less than £5m in the modern market.

I do however think he is having a poor season by the standards he has set previously. If it’s true he wanted away in the summer this may be playing a part in it.

I know some in the team don’t provide chances for him the way he used to get then but I actually think this is also a conscious effort from other teams to block of low crosses at the near post where he used to score so many goals. The amount of times now you see a low pull back blocked just before it reaches him.

Don’t get me wrong there are times he should be picked out and isn’t but a lot of the time he is making runs when we have the ball he is making a run for a 1 in 100 type pass, so I am not surprised this isn’t always played even if it is seen.

I mentioned it in another thread I think both Kyogo and Maeda not being comfortable taking the ball is a toxic combination in games we are high pressed.

One thing I believe that can be said for this season about Kyogo is he has been very poor in most of our big games. He has done very little in any of the champions league games, he did score against Rangers earlier in the season but I believe he missed a couple of chances earlier, missed a great chance in the cup final but was otherwise quiet. He made a mess of a number of good situations in that game on Thursday including two in the opening 5 minutes and got absolutely bossed by Sterling who has been made look ordinary by Motherwell and St Mirren forwards in the last week. He was unlucky for his goal but it was him that went just too quickly as I don’t think Bernardo could have played the pass any quicker.

He did play well against Aberdeen in the league at home and cup semi final but too often when the ball comes to him our moves break down. I don’t recall him ever being brilliant at linking play but I also don’t recall him ever being as bad at it as he has been lately. There also seems a real selfishness at times between our forward players just now, it’s not a terrible thing but previously if another was in a better position they would be played in where now they all seem to want to take the glory and go it alone.

I am very much of the mindset if it is true Kyogo wants to go we should sell him after the CL games and bring someone in who is hungry and wants to be here. I liked the look of Kvistgaarden but I don’t know if he would suit being the main striker in our system.

Someone who might be a gamble given his previous stint in England would be Cucho Hernandez from Columbus Crew. He has been scoring and creating goals for fun in MLS and has a year left.

i think the style of play has taken a nosedive since brugge , i just dont know what more you expect from kyogo ,he making runs creating options which nobody bothers trying to find ,hes been playing off scraps in a crowded penalty area .do you want him dropping back to midfield to take a touch to give it right back a midfielder .im all on for idah getting a run out too but it aint gonna improve the chance creation

By the way that was some finish for his offside goal, even if it doesn't mean anything.

Saw that angle from behind Kelly and the way he hooks it over him was top class.

I just don't see anything in Idah to be honest, whereas Kyogo is a proven talent on a poor patch, but I do agree Idah needs a run to be judged properly. Its tough to form a strong opinion based on the odd showing and sub appearances and when Kyogo is off the boil there's no reason not to give Idah a run. I'd love to be proven wrong

I don't know how to express that they are different strikers in any other way than I already have.

Apples and oranges. Haaland is a very different striker to Suárez. Idah is a very different striker to Kyogo. That was the appeal in signing Idah.

Idah can be judged. He doesn't get a free pass. He did * all like everybody else. Are we disregarding his goalscoring record too as we can't judge him coming off the bench in previous games?

I like both strikers for the record. They both have different qualities that makes it better to break down teams. I wouldn't have been against starting Idah but I doubt he would've played any better than the rest of the team did.

They are very different strikers. That's the point.

1 isnt really offering very much and in games like Thursday perhaps the different type of striker would have been the better option.

He may not have been, but given how the Huns set up in cup final and fact they were at home with 50,000 slabbering * roaring them on I think the manager should have considered going with the more target man type to help us bypass the press when needed.

The issue is Idah is only getting 30 mins per game for whatever reason and due to that he doesn't look as sharp as he could be so Ur probably right he maybe wouldn't have made much difference but I'd put than onto the manager for not recognising the potential game plan of the Huns and attempting to up Idahs match time in games since the cup final.

I think the reality is he’s not a Brendan Rodgers striker.

Rodgers wants a Dembele/Edouard type striker who can hold it up, come short and bring others into play.

However given everything Kyogo achieved under Ange there was no chance he was coming in and replacing him right away.

I still think Kyogo has a lot to offer if we can get the ball forward faster and delivery quality crosses and cutbacks from wide areas but that’s not been happening for a while now.

Rodgers isn’t going to change his system albeit I’m sure there will be tweaks made going forward and there’s probably an acceptance that we need another striker who can hold it in when we are struggling to get out from the back. We’ve got Idah but he’s been starved of consistent minutes and I don’t think Rodgers signed him to be anything other than a second striker despite his price tag.

Thats fair he really needs to improve in that area and it would make a massive impact on his level of play as his movement is good and his finishing ability in front of goal is superb.

In the same sense, Ange has gone to Spurs and signed someone like Solanke who is more akin to Idah. I don't think it's all about him not being suited to Rodgers. Every manager will want different options and Rodgers has been flexible at times.

As I said last week in here, kyogo has to shoulder some blame. He doesn't involve himself enough and if anything Rodgers style has shown his glaring deficiencies on the ball.

World class movement still but even when he is being found by wingers and midfielders he hasn't been clinical enough this season.

That seems to be an excuse being used by folk to defend him. "He isn't getting the service". Perhaps not as much as peak under Ange with Jota and Abada either side and MOR feeding him, but he's still being fed with chances and hasn't finished them.

I think the the biggest factor in his decline is us selling MoR.

I agree Kyogo does need to take some responsibility for his poor form, it isn’t purely down to people not finding him. Even when they have, his first touch has been shocking.

Maybe it’s always been that way but we’ve never seen it because under Ange he was never asked to come short.

He is sensational at playing the offside trap and laser sharp movement in the box but I genuinely don’t think the system we play is going to get the best out of him on a regular basis. Therefore we need to think about bringing someone else in and most likely moving him on.

His strength has always been his movement and making runs in behind.
Rodgers system doesnt get the ball forward as quick as Anges and so he is less effective.

I do agree he has been guilty of missing big chances, i just think he is rustier and devoid of confidence.

The best outcome might be to move him on as Rodgers wont change his system and Kyogo isnt showing signs of improving into it.

I still think he is a class striker but there are too many games he doesnt impact and Celtic need a striker who does.

Also feel at times that Kyogo is too nice/lightweight.

His sportsmanship is a admirable and the way he conducts himself is a credit to himself.

But in these games, players wouldnt hesitate to go through him and leave one on him, where as in contrast Kyogo is always concerned for the welfare of his opponent when he goes down etc.

He has obviously shown he can be great and a game winner in these derby games, but sometimes when we cant get playing, there is a need for power like Giakoumakis offered. Thats where we need Idah to step up.

Should do far better with the header towards the end but not really a suprise to see him weakly head it wide
