Hindsight being 20/20 it was poor management by lennon and the board. Keeping 3 or 4 players who had likey been promised moves was always gonna lead to trouble.

Edouard one stings more bcoz pretty common knowledge that his replacement would of been Toney and likey would of been the signing to win us the 10

Celtic are yet to receive an official approach from Urawa Red Diamonds for Kyogo, Football Scotland understands.

The 29-year-old is reportedly being lined up for what would be a shock return to his home country with the Hoops in a strong position to demand a mega sum of cash. URD are now believed to be one of if not the richest clubs in Japan and would, indeed, have money to spend and they have identified Kyogo as their ideal candidate for the striker spot. The record fee spent in the country is £10million but they'd have to smash through that to land their target

A source has indicated to Football Scotland that nothing concrete has yet been tabled for the fan favourite who has smashed in 75 goals over his three years in Glasgow.

Diamonds do, however, have a good relationship with the Scottish champions having previously held discussions over a move for Giorgos Giakoumakis back in 2023.

A deal was agreed between both parties but the Greek striker opted for a move to Atlanta in the MLS.

The money he’s worth to us is more than anyone would offer for him, he’s 29, extended his contract this year, Japan’s not a country with teams that offer big fees.

the only slight worry I have is he must have spent the majority of this year frustrated as *. There was a game around February I sat watching him for about 10 minutes rather than the game, just making run after run, and the ball being knocked about the defence. And he looked defeated. Constantly still working offering the option, making space, clever off the ball like we seen being devastating under Ange. But the ball was never going to come. And that’s what he’s done all year.

He cut a frustrated figure. But he doesn’t strike me as someone who’d force a move, more a guy who would want to come back next year and show his best and why he should be the main man. Because he loves that attention, and rarely was it him this year. But its a slight worry moving home, romping that league, rather than another year he might cut the frustrated player, and possibly replaced because if we get Idah I think Rodgers would opt for him going into the new season.

Only thing with moving back to Japan is would it put him the national team managers eye more than over here? You'd like to think not with CL games guaranteed but as we seen this season he was overlooked despite playing and scoring in this seasons groups.

Depends how high on his priorities national caps are.

The National Team stuff with him I think he’ll know it’s not the team or league, Hatate and Maeda are automatic picks, well Maeda is. Hatate got called up for the Asia Cup being injured for 4 months and 60 odd minutes back in his legs as well. The Japan manager just doesn’t rate him.

And some snippets about why he hasn’t called him up at times either are just wrong or lost in translation, he was saying doesn’t work hard and a selfish player at one point. Which is genuinely just wrong, he’s one of the hardest working strikers we’ve ever had. His workrate comes close to Maeda, just not as obvious. Constantly closes down when they have the ball, and constantly making runs when we do.

Being in scotland hasn't stopped maeda and hatate getting called up, don't think playing in japan would do anything for him, their boss just doesn't fancy him.

I think the "softness" in him is a big part of what makes him such a likeable guy, but i think that he would go up another level in terms of quality if he toughened up a bit. Crumbling under preassure is what i believe will be what makes him move away eventually. Love the guy though.

Must be very hard moving away from a completely different culture, but having the other Japanese players around makes us keep him i think.

At 29, if we were offered anywhere near £25m, we should bite their hand off. Great player no doubt, but he is becoming a little more injury prone, that shoulder is a problem, and had real dips in do this season.

Not a chance we’d get anything over £10m for him. I reckon closer to £8m.

As @Liam Scales said - worth way more to us than anyone would pay.

Forget the age thing too, Japanese players are consummate professionals and I expect he will still be as dynamic and sharp as a tack for the next 5 years.

Crazy to sell, unless bonkers bid.

    For me, this.

He's got years still in him.
*, Nakamura only just recently retired for * sake :56:

Unless the money is silly season for US - and I think it would need to be at least £15m - to the stage that we can cover a superb replacement with change, then he's not worth selling.

He is worth far more to us for the next four(?) seasons rather than selling him.

Thought they might have used the close season for surgery on the shoulder..
