Played 72 minutes and only got 9 touches of the ball. Both our strikers combined actually only touched the ball 15 times the whole game, Kyogo 9 and Idah 6, embarrassing really although they both scored.

When you watch Man Utd, you feel Hojlund hardly gets the ball either but he for example had 44 touches of the ball against Bournemouth yesterday, 3x Kyogo and Idah combined.

Other players, Kane had 24 in the Bayern game, Haaland 25 in Man City, Solanke 46 against Man Utd, Isak 22 for Newcastle, Son 29 for Spurs. McBurnie 41, Maupay 31. Joselu for Real Madrid 29.

Miovski 25 for Aberdeen, Maolida 45 for Hibs, Watkins and Vassell for Kilmarnock had over 40 each.

Shankland had 65 for Hearts. Yengi for Livingston against Hearts, 34.

    9 is shocking

    8 vs Motherwell (45 minutes)
19 vs St Johnstone (75 minutes)
    17 vs Livingson (71 minutes)
    22 vs Huns (69 minutes)
9 vs St Mirren (72 minutes)

Thats the last 5 games he's started as lone striker in the League 73 touches of the ball across 5 hours and 32 minutes of football.

He's a victim of his own success. He has set unreal standards and hasn't lived up to them this season but hasn't actually been that bad.

Even when he hasn't met his high standards, he still displays great awareness. One moment yesterday we were getting crowded near the half way line and he came deep, lifted the ball over St Mirren and played it on to Hatate (I think) and we were open down our left.

We need to play to his strengths though as his movement is unmatched when it clicks.

I'm less convinced it's a Rodgers 'playing style' thing - feels like everything round him is just not as good.
Jota/Abada v the rest of our 6 or 7 lower quality wingers.
Of course Rodgers is also key to that lack of overall quality so definitely not blameless.
Combine that with the whole team, including Kyogo, confidence dropping this season.

I think he'll finish strongly - if everything around him is working well.

On the number of touches in box, not convinced that's so important if his only touches are goals, good chances or assists - Haaland doing ok with less than 10 touches a game.

    Good point.

The loss of Abada and Jota has impacted his game. The drop off in quality down the wings is staggering.

Jota, Kyogo and Abada forward line was a joy to watch.

We beat Kilmarnock 5 - 0 at start of last season under Ange. We were 3-0 up by half time and I rember sky having a graphic up just before half time saying he had had 5 touches and that included a goal and a missed penalty.

It's not an issue just defined to this season. It's his style of play he plays off the shoulder and wants it in behind early. If we dont play that way or if teams park the bus he's barly involved.
Rodgers tried to change his game up at the start of the season and had him dropping deep to be more involved and there were folk on here absolutely losing their * about it

I think 25 can be normal sometimes but even then the average even for Haaland, Kane, is probably about 30 but not 15 really between your two strikers.

Like under Ange last 3 League games last season against Aberdeen, Hibs and St Mirren him and Oh had 21, 23, 28 - before the split 37, 30 and 26 against Ross County, Motherwell and Kilmarnock. 15 even under Ange i'd bet would be near unheard of and that was a distinct style of play that provided plenty of chances for the striker.

He does do some dropping deep and a lot of runs about in the hole and in behind but we never really pass a ball to him through the middle of the park.

His touches yesterday were probably all from O'Riley, Johnston or Kuhn passing it to him from the right inside the box.

I seen today that Dessers has more goals than kyogo this season so I checked the top scorer’s in the spfl and there are 6 players with more goals than kyogo so far this season.

I’m not bashing him by any means I’m a big fan of Kyogos as I’d assume most Celtic fans are but I have a genuine question.
Should we stick with kyogo starting for the remaining games or should Idah be given more of a chance? Not sure if the stats are 100% correct but I took them from transfermarkt. Since idah has joined us in January he has scored 7 goals and got 2 assists for us.
In this time kyogo has scored 4 goals and 1 assist. I actually didn’t check the minutes but I’d assume kyogo would have more of the minutes although I’m not sure as idah did get a couple of starts.
I personally am not sure who to go with, kyogo on form is the best striker in the league by a distance but he isn’t on form tbh to his standards. I think service hasn’t been great but also he hasn’t done as well as he normally would when he has got the service too.
Idah I thinks been good but some chances he’s missed I would’ve fancied kyogo to put away. I do think with how we’ve been playing the last couple games it would suit idahs style more

Kyogo will prove his importance in this run in..

The only game I maybe wouldn't start him is Killie away.

I hope so mate, I was just curious to see what people think as I’m kind of on the fence, I think sticking with kyogo will prove worthwhile but I also think idah should get more minutes rather than 15-20 off the bench. In fairness though I do think dundee at dens park would suit idah with the pitch etc

The amount of times on Saturday that yet again he was making excellent runs and no one spotted them or were too scared or uncomfortable with their own abilities to play it through. Been a massive problem all season.
Last 2 seasons we have lost the 3 biggest providers for kyogo....rogic, jota, abada....and not replaced them adequately.

Might no scored as much this season but I'd like to see his conversion rate.
Used to have 6 shots per goal, went down last season, sure it's about the same or less this season.
Shameful how it's played out this season.

One that stood out the most for me was iwata in the second half breaking down the left and kyogo made a run in behind their defence and was inside literally all iwata had to do was play it quick and he hesitated twice then the space was blocked off and kyogo was raging. Hate when players overthink them passes. If a teammate is using up energy to make them passes for you and make your job easier you have to pick them out. Would’ve literally sent him beyond there defence to either shoot or square it back across the box

All down to team tactics etc that he's not scoring the goals we all know he can.
There's been many games where you see him making good runs etc but we just hold it for a side pass or play out to the wings instead of through balls..to me anyways.
He has definitely been wasted this season with the change of play we've had to endure.

I met him in George Square one day and couldn't help but get the sad-fan obligatory selfie with him.....showed it to everyone who cared (or didn't) for the next month - he is a super-star.

    ....but.....

    - He is one man, if as it looks, he is a little off form then, maybe Idah starts and Kyogo comes on for he last 20
    - If we have lost the players that supplied him (Jota/Abada/etc) then we have to work with what we have....maybe the pinpoint Jota pass, is replaced by an AJ swung in cross.....Idah might batter into that better then Kyogo.

Not disrespecting Kyogo, not dumping him from the squad....but we need to do what we need to do

Add Mooy to that list too. He was great at spotting a pass from deep.

Jota, Abada, Rogic, Mooy - 4 creative losses off the top of my head.

Those around him aren't as good anymore. We need to replace that quality thats been lost. Its a reason we haven't been as freescoring all season long.

I've been watching a lot.of old footage of us under Rodgers even into 2018 and we did play good football. We need to secure players who suit his style more. We've shown it in flashes.

For me the full backs and some of the midfielders aren't the ideal type. Then the wingers we all know about.

A lot of work needed. I'd also say Kyogo in general needs to try and involve himself more. I think he's quite limited on the ball and that was evident even under Ange. Sometimes I do think we need a more all rounded striker tbh. For certain games anyway.
