Ajer is not a better player than Johansen (yet). He's a very exciting player, but I wouldn't expect too much of him in the first year. I would sign him now and either lend him back to Start for the 1st half of the Norwegian season or to another Scottish club.

Would still rather give him or Allan/McGregor/Armstrong a chance to play next to Bitton while Brown is out. Off course Johansen is a better player but he doesn't perform in sitting midfield.

I think the 3 players you mention should be in the team in any position before johansen

He has the same agent as Deila and Johansen.

I like we have this lad on trial, so if he's good enough we can sign him up.

It's a kin to try before you buy you see at supermarkets. I mind visiting Aldi just before Christmas, they had some new European beers on a testing table. One was £1.79 a bottle, the other was £1.22 and the one at a £1.22 was much nicer. So a bought a few.

No offence, but that's what is wrong with our expectations of youngsters and why it is so hard for some to break through.
He is only 20 and barely kicked a ball for us. Any time we start a youngster and they make a mistake (of which a young defender will make some and be more remembered than attacking), we hammer them and call them *, get on the managers back and can lead to youngsters not getting their chance.
We demand instant success and want a 19 (when he last played for us) year old centre back to be playing like Carlos puyol at his peak.

As for ajer, I'd expect if he signed we wouldn't see much of him for 18.months.
Unless he really is as good as the stories say.
Either way, I'd take him and get him prepared as fast as possible. That's the sort of youngster we need to sign from untapped markets. Along with some more experience.

Tierney and Henderson have potential as did Forrest before him. O'Connell like a few before like Chalmers etc are pish.

The jury is still out on henderson. Tierney is having a superb first 6 months in the first team, at the age of 18. Much like souttar at united.
Come next season Tierney could be making all sorts of mistakes, and I expect him to (and then learn from them). Knowing our fans though as soon as he does, we will be on his case. And blaming the manager for daring to use an 18 year old as a starter.
    We are a fickle bunch.

I'm not saying O'Connell is great or going to be amazing, but we haven't seen enough either way really, and writing him off at the age of 19 is silly.

Nah, i think we'd see him in the team straight away.
He has the potential to be one of the best Norwegian players for decades - many think he will be better than Odgaard.
When we signed Wanyama we thought he would be behind Ki etc for 18 months - he was better when he got up to speed with our leagues pace.
I think this guy would be as good as Bitton off the bat as one of the holding two.
He's aggressive, strong, tireless, intelligent - what we lack in the team in the DM position.
We should be pulling out all the stops for this lad.

As I posted, and then again when I read your first line I did think of wanyama and how we got told 18months and he was a cb. Three months later we had a world class central midfielder at the club.

I would love for the same to happen here. And wouldn't be surprised to be honest if it did. But not wanting to get my hopes up or put too much expectations on a 17 year old just yet.

Though, from what I know of the guy, I would rather see him play in the midfield alongside Armstrong, with Johansson or Allen in the amc position.

I'd be concerned that ajer and bitton/Brown in the middle together could give us a similar problem to what happens some times when we play both Brown and bitton these days - two players that like to sit and play Dm, and we lose the connection between midfield and attack a little.

Ajer is more flexible than either of them though. He's excelled at going forward but can also sit behind perfectly fine.

I believe this trial is nothing more than a holiday for this boy, he will go elsewhere for more trials and sit on the bench in a top league. Might get him on loan from whoever he signs for.

Bit worrying there has been nothing else said and his agent cooled talks about a move here seems like he could be coming for nothing more than a bit of experience/holiday as the last poster said :( hope im wrong tho cause this boy has so much potential and already would be a good addition.

Got a good feeling that we'll sign him.

With Ronny and Johansen here he'll probably feel more at home than at most other clubs that are interested in him. Plus with us he has a great chance of regular first team football right away.
