I agree with this I am not a fan of the whole keeping a player who is likely to leave this window to play qualifiers. I don’t see how their mind can be 100% on it if they know they won’t be here.

I don’t recall that approach ever working for us in the past when we tried it. If that offer is true, I don’t see us getting a much better one.

I don’t like the idea of keeping Ajer, Eddie, Ntcham and /or Christie to run down their contract as all you do them is find yourself in a horrible place squad wise with no money to replace them.

    It worked with Dembele.

    So he wasn't involved today
One of three reasons could apply:
    1. He had a slight injury
    2. He is close to a move
    3. His attitude is not in it, already checked out

If 1 applied, the club would have made a statement to that effect, so don't think that that's it
    So leaves 2 or 3:
2 is certainly still a possibility - we know the club keeps these things close to the vest until it is signed, sealed, delivered. So kinda like the Starfeld boy missing the other day (until that broke down) - you don't play players where there may be negotiations with another club.
3 also a very strong possibility - particularly if we are rejecting offers that are attractive to him and his agent but don't meet our own valuation.

So we are all screaming to get a new CB in - I think Ange probably more than anyone! But we clearly have several options we are considering, the Swede the Croatian and the Yank (and maybe/probably even more that are unknown to anyone outside the circle)
I personally do not believe we are waiting for Ajer deal to be concluded before we close on one of these guys - I think negotiations have been in play with at least these three and they are being careful in getting the absolute right fit.
We also know Ange likes to talk to these guys personally - maybe that part of it is why we haven't concluded any of them, he's just not 100% sold after that stage.

How did it work with Dembele he got injured, we failed to qualify and then he called out the manager to get out on deadline day without a replacement?

Would’ve took £15m plus a sell on. Especially to Brentford.

He was always going and his last qualifier he scored twice did he not?

Clutching at straws a bit there to call that a success scored two goals in a tie we were already 3-0 up in against an Armenian team.

If he was always going we would have been far better selling him before deadline day to give us time to sign a replacement rather than go back to running with only two strikers of which one was struggling to be available.

Only way you're turning that down is if he signs a new deal.

If he's not signing a new deal, it's stupidity beyond belief.

It doesnt make sense when he could be sold and the money used to finance rebuliding.
Get the swede in and still have 8 million to spend on other positions.

are we giving these guys updated salaries a year or so before their contract runs down ? or was the last rise ajer got 2 or 3 year ago and hes still on £10k or something

if these guys are seeing £10m to £20m regularly getting mentioned with their name they are not daft they know they could be commanding anywhere between 40k to 60k a week

so we should be looking to update their contracts and salaries more commensurate with their market value not doing this is going to lead to unhappy players and i wonder if thats been an issue the last 4 or so years

i would absolutely have taken £12m and 3m in addons plus a percentage of future sell on

He’s been on tv doing interviews saying he wants to leave.

Mental we’ve turned that down IMO, cos I don’t see anyway he signs a new deal now.

Bad planning from the club is never in argument.

And this Ajer against some Danish mob. Play the best team we have available until they are no longer available.

I'd have bitten their hand off for that fee. Maybe it was the structure of the deal we didn't like?

Probably went * spending 4 million on a new player lets offer Ajer captaincy and a big pay rise to stay, see what he says.

I don't think Captaincy is the big deal that supporters think it is !!
I also don't think it's about the money. Ajer has stated that he wants to play in a league that is at a higher standard than the SPFL.
It will always be a drawback for Celtic that they play in a weaker league & that as players develop they crave a higher level.

Tell big Ajer and the rest of the want always to sit down and have a chance with Henrik Larsson and ask him if playing for Celtic in Scotland held him back. His time will come when and if he becomes as good as Henrik or VVD or KT to move to a "bigger" club

I'm guessing Ajer thinks his time has come. Not about a "bigger' club but about a "bigger" league.

KT has already improved as a player by playing in a better league. Aye players want to play down south because they make more money but they also get bored playing against the likes of Hamilton 4 times a season as well

Makes perfect sense .. Top players want to be challenged and need to play at the highest level they are capable of. It's not about Celtic, it's about the Scottish Premiership.

If we keep moving the goalposts for selling him it's just going to * up the relationship between the club and him more.

Let the bhoy leave on good terms and use the money to sign replacements, although it looks like we're * about enough with that now that Vuskovic has gone cold and stafeld we've allegedly dropped out of
