No doubt he's been a terrific player for us, but under Deila there's no place in the team for him. He's to slow and slows the pace down when he plays in the middle of a 3 behind the striker and unfortunately for him won't be playin off the striker like he did last year for us again. Time is up I'm afraid.

2 year contract with option to add another year would be good.

I'd be gutted if we offered him anything like a 3 year deal on £20k+.

I definitely want Kris Commons to stay. He is one of our best players and his goals from midfield are absolutely priceless.

However, at 31 he is not worth a three year deal on the same terms. His physique means he will not be one of these guys playing well near his mid thirties.

Hopefully common sense will prevail but I'd think a 2 year deal on slightly reduced terms would be the sweet spot.

If he wants anything more, or longer, then I'd side with the club on this one, as much as I love the man.

Hope he stays for sure but not at any cost. It must make sense for the club first and foremost. He's been a great servant, but we've also been great for him.

I have not read this thread, just logged in to say,
Kris Commons is being pushed out the door from the first day Ronny Deila took over, obviously being told by the board to get rid of this higher earner ASAP.

he can barely last 90 mins with the style of football we are trying to play.

i take nothing away from what he has given us in the past, he has been brilliant for us and really bought into what it means to be part of the celtic family, but we are moving in a new direction in terms of our style of play and he just doesnt fit into that anymore.

he has never been the fittest player, and people have already mentioned he really slows the play down when he is on the field but thats totally at odds with what ronny wants to do.

    basically that leaves 3 options;

1 - ronny changes our style of play to accomodate one player and builds the team around that player who has a couple of seasons left in him at best. turning his back on his own football philosophy an one that is more in line with the modern game and the direction we should be heading in.

2 - we keep him as a plan b who can offer a different style when required, basically paying him something close to the top of our wage bracket for not even playing in over half of our games a season. robbing him of the chance to enjoy the last few years of his career playing first team football

3 - we let him go for the benefit of both him and the club, allowing him to play regularly for as long as he would like to and allowing us to build for the future

option 1 will never happen and option 2 should never happen. so the only viable option is 3

I'm not really overly arsed if he stays or not.

I know it sounds incredible to say that about a player who scored 32 goals last season, but, I have never really taken to him as I have with other players.

However, before he does/was to go, I'd want a replacement brought in. Someone who is a genuine attacking midfielder, number 10. We have been missing that for far too long. Someone with real vision and ability to pick a pass could really make the difference in this side. Especially with a guy like Guidetti making intelligent runs constantly which 7 or 8 times out of 10 are not spotted.

Daily Record keep saying that teams in England are interested in him

Any idea who these sides are?

Could it just be paper talk or rumours from his agent, trying to force the clubs hand?

I'd happily have him at Everton, especially on a free, but I'd rather he stay with the Hoops

I'm like quite a few on here that wouldn't be too bothered about him going, he fits less and less to the way we are trying to play. Seeing Johansen in that attacking mid position is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Lennon at Bolton will be a cert. Apart from that who knows. Not sure if any prem teams would take a punt on him as he's never performed at CL group stage level and we've been * this season so our players have fallen off the radar (compare it to 2012 when it seemed our whole team was getting linked with moves away).

Crystal Palace are continually mentioned due to Ledley no doubt.

The most blatant option will no doubt be Bolton and I personally reckon that would probably be a better fit for everyone involved if it's decided his future is no longer with Celtic. His bird will be gutted.

Somebody said commons is too slow pish pure pish he's never been a fast he gets the ball beats a guy and passes into space n moves and is very capable of hitting the target from distance you don't have to be the fastest player commons to me plays the same way scholes plays collecting the ball using his body to shield it and beat a player while creating something for himself or another player this is something we badly missed last night he can do the damage so why people are saying no is beyond me

He doesn't fit in the team. Slows play down and offers little. Compared to years back, he is now little more than a passenger in this side.

    Time to move on.

I'd be happy if everybody in our team contributed as 'little' as Commons does, considering he's been injured for a good while and is still joint second top scorer and our second highest assister.

Commons or Johansen in the number 10 role?

If we're continuing with the same formation the Johansen, just because he drops back and makes a three in midfield. That's the most important thing for me, to not be outnumbered in the middle of the pitch.

We are absolutely shocking at controlling the midfield at the moment. Saying that, I thought the game was crying out for Commons in that role last night, even though he done * all when he came on. Commons likes to find those gaps in between midfield and defence, Johansen is more all action.

It's Johansens position to lose just now though, competition can only be a good thing.

Would you rather have Commons or McGregor playing?
