I thought Celtic played better when he came on the other night as well. But he still looked out of his depth to be honest. And considering he is in the last year of his contract, in his 30s, no doubt on big wages, and rarely pulls his weight in matches, I think just letting him wind down his contract without looking for a club who would pay money for him would be a mistake.

Having said that, as supporters we shouldn't really care how much the club get from transfers, as not as if we'll see it invested back into the team.

    1. He wants to finish his career at celtic
    2. He's 31, so everyone over 30 should be sold regardless of how good they are?! Pish!!!
    3. 51 goals I think in 102 games would suggest he more than pulls his weight considering he is a midfielder!!! Vast amount of strikers would love to have goals to games ratio like that.
    4. I don't know what he is on in wages so fair enough!

Too many people on here with short memories when it comes to certain players. He has been great since signing for celtic and truly loves the club, we need players like that now more than ever!!

I think many players can have a decent goal-scoring record in a pub league, but it doesn't mean you're good enough or pulling your weight.

Name another midfielder in this pub league with his scoring record then?

I don't really care if he wants to finish his career at Celtic or not. Having said that, it would be interesting to see how much of wage cut he would be prepared to take in order to do that. I can't imagine he'd hang around too long though.

I am not saying sell every player over the age of 30. But merely pointing out that it doesn't make much sense to offer a guy a new contract on big wages, when he isn't the future of the club, and/or offers very little else than having a good goal-scoring record in a tin-pot league that Celtic have won before a ball is kicked.

Don't get me wrong, he has done a job for Celtic. But, as far as I'm concerned, it's time for something new and fresh, and offering the likes of Commons a new contract doesn't fit in with that.

I'd love to see how well we would have done last year then had he not scored the goals that ultimately won us the tin pot league?! What exactly is the future of our club then coz rite now I'm struggling to see where we are actually going!! To build a new future you have to have stability and gradually introduce new ideas and concepts, keeping guys like commons who guarantee goals and everything else that comes with his play will certainly make it easier for the club to try and make subtle changes whilst still winning at the same time!!

I have absolutely no doubt that if we set up like we did last year then we would have taken care of Maribor quite comfortably!! The manager has his ideas and wants to implement them and I have no problem with that but he's making too many changes at once and dumping guys like commons etc will ultimately cost him his job when we start dropping points in games when last season commons saved us with his goals from nowhere

Celtic would've probably have won the league, playing quite dull football, just as they did last season.

I think for a fresh start, you get rid of the dross and the high-earners. I think Celtic needs a massive overhaul from the boardroom to the players. I don't want to see gradual change, I want to see radical and rapid changes. And playing in a tin-pot league offers Celtic the chance to do that, without losing the championship.

The Maribor result the other night has been coming for the last few years. Celtic have just about scraped into the Champions League over the last few seasons against the likes of Cliftonville, Elfsborg, Helsingborgs, Helsinki and Karagandy etc. The writing has been on the wall for quite a while now.

I take it you rated Maribor quite highly then aye?! Is so then the only 1 talking bollocks is u!! They were poor, it was the best draw celtic could have hoped for. Gordon was fine in goals so that's the Forster part taken care of. A back 4 of lustig, izzy, van dijk and dennayer.
A midfield 4 of you're choice from Mathews (replacing Forrest) biton, kayal, johansen, mcgreggor and Mulgrew.
    Commons behind stokes or griffiths.
The system being used doesn't suit the players we have just now, a 4-4-2 or
4-4-1-1 using the players iv mentioned would have scored goals and caused them problems of that I have no doubt. The only players I agree with u that we are really missing are ledley and brown but we still had enough to beat * Maribor.

Kris Commons career record in Europe

    32 games, 4 goals, 6 assists. Goals per minutes played - 544.

2179 minutes played. Equivalent of 24 full matches.

your comparing apples with oranges mate the team we had last year when we beat karagandy and just scraped through was a helluva lot better than the players that played against maribor
    commons scored
samaras scored player not with us anymore and a problem position for us
forrest scored injured all the time and a youngster a good youngster although an inexperienced one

we had a very strong and experienced players in central midfield

brown and ledley who are very fit and tigerish and with ledley a goal threat

who'd win if last years team played this years team if it could actually happen ???

last years obviously, it was so much better but at the same time incredibly weak by champions league standards

just cause we're celtic doesnt mean we have a absolute right to be better than some smaller european team the players have to do it on the park and they didnt cause they are *

The thing is, Maribor probably thought the same when they drew us. That was arguably the best draw for them also. We are also a poor team at present.

He thinks hes better than he really is if he is seeking an explanation for why he didn't start.

I thought Commons made a positive difference when he came on in the 2nd half of the Maribor game and is the only player we have capable of troubling the opposition goalkeeper from distance and pulling something special out the bag. He was top drawer last season and I would dread to think where his 30 odd goals would have came from if someone else was playing in his place. He deserves to be offered a new contract if that's what he wants. Why any Celtic fan wants him out is beyond me.

I know Commons is only 30, but my big problem with him is he appears to me to be an "old" 30. When you look at his general fitness level and add in his playing style it is hard to see him being very effective, except maybe in the SPFL, as he gets even older.

Love the guy, obviously a fantastic footballer but his lack of pace can be a hindrance at times and as people have said, his fitness levels seem a bit ropey. One of the players you build a system around, not the opposite (looking at you Rondo).

Aye cos every other * is desperate to get into the club! Think not. We would gain nothing getting rid of our talent we have.
