Couldn't be much worse than Stokes.

Not saying he SHOULD be a lone a striker, just saying i'd rather have seen him play than Stokes.

    * saying stokes had a good game cause he ran about, i could run about and be offside 23 times a game too.

Totally agree, but in our present position and what looks like our manager and by the looks of thing useless scouts and board to spot a striker who can score, he's our best bet for a goal.

If Commons had the physical attributes to play in the hole and cover defensively there wouldn't have been any need to bring Kayal in.

Stokes DM and Mulgrew and Johansen up front? Ballsy, I like it.

If we don't go out and bring in a striker, I will be very disappointed. Everyone and their dog can see that is what is missing from the team. We have money, go out and find a quality striker. I'm not saying money guarantees that, but we have spunked millions on trying to replace Hooper on the cheap.

Other than being quicker, we've got no idea they'll be good enough to keep Commons out the team most weeks.

Good decision to leave him out tonight, despite his excellent record domestically he's just not quick enough for Europe.

Although Maribor were surprisingly poor and gave us acres of room, so Commons probably would have flourished tonight.

Yep I believe Stokesy's hard working attitude will be enough to see him tidy up in front of the back four. While Mulgrew is pretty good in the air and Johansen can create chances out of nothing....'bout time we mixed things up! :icon_mrgreen:

Depends what Ronny Deila's vision of a 4-3-3 is I suppose. If it's one central striker with the other two forwards being wide men then I don't see Commons fitting in to that template. If it's some variation that allows one of the front three to drop off the front and in to the hole then Commons could fit into that kind of line-up.

I do genuinely think he lacks the natural athleticism that Deila seems to be looking for in his players though.

Although I'd have started Commons ahead of Stokes, I see where Deila was coming from tonight and it worked well enough.

He'll probably play the second leg.

Been reading some of the posts and can't believe there is so much negativity about a guy who for the past 3 years have been brilliant for us. Top Man last year with a bundle of goals and suddenly he's not up to it. We are such a fickle bunch and change our views on our guys quicker than the weather. Maybe he's not the quickest but he is a Pro and more importantly he is a Bhoy.

Good for the team that he was left out tonight. He'll have a role to play on Tuesday though.

I fully expect us to go more attacking at home and impose ourselves on the game but we need to be wary of them on the counter, especially if we switch back to another 2 man central midfield.

Stokes is hardly rapid, but he's a lot faster than Commons I don't see how that's in question.

Commons is the far better player though, of course. Just wish we hadn't sold Hooper as both Commons and Stokes had such great understanding with him :54:

A lot faster, aye ma birdy. Sorry, no chance. Is that why he's alway offside, it's because of his electric place.

I was just thinking about Commons with RD expressing interested in Cardiff's Kim. I can't see him having two of these type of players in the team.

RD was right to drop Commons against maribor. He's never really done it for us in Europe. He has the same sort of impact for us like Boyd had for Rangers. Great domestically but posted missing during our European games.

Everyone talks about his goal rate, but that's domestically and we'd win the league without him. I'd rather get rid and take a gamble on someone who may make an impression for us in Europe. Johanson has already showed signs he may be the man to unlock defences with his creative passing. He hasn't been tested against strong opposition but Commons has and he has so far not impressed much.
