This guy doesn't get anywhere near enough praise imo. I wouldn't sell him for any money. One of the few remaining footballers who really care about their club and its fans. Him and his family have taken Celtic to their hearts and get the club, even the charitable side. It was barely touched upon what they did for the Knox family and how much support they gave that cause, but someone like Zaluska says something out of turn in the media or Griffiths sings a naughty song and there's pages of * discussing that.

Does Commons even have a song?

 

I can't believe what I am reading in this thread!

Commons is our best player, no doubt about it. if he went we would be in even more trouble than we already are now.

There's a reason we rely on him to score important goals more than our apparent strikers.

 

If the £7.5 million figure was true, he'd be standing with a West Brom shirt right now.

Age can make players better, not worse. I think this club has suffered in Europe because of a certain lack of older players(mostly in defense though).

 

Sell Commons for 7.5 mill, replace him with a 19 year old Ecuadorian who got 8 assists last year in the Peruvian 2nd division.

Sure players can get payed for what they've done but only to a point. When a player is younger he usually has to work his way up to full value in wages and at the other end he can maybe make a little extra for what he has done. But I think there is usually a pretty quick drop off when you get to a certain age and people can honestly question whether it is value for money. 31 year old Giggs has a few years left (!), 31 year old Commons, not so much.

 

Commons scored 32 goals last year, and people want him sold?

Yes 7.5 million is a lot of money for a player of his age, but he's an experienced head that the young players look up to, something we need in our young squad.

I wish we could just think of the team instead of the money for once, because we all know if we do sell him for 7.5 (unlikely) most of that won't be reinvested in the squad anyway.

 

We should be signing him up to a new contract ASAP rather than sell him

 

tbh if you'd gone back and looked at Giggs aged 31, you'd have probably said he wouldn't last much longer, seeing as his early career was characterised by pace and lung-bursting runs.

Commons has never had pace so I don't see what difference there will be betwen 25 year old and 32 year old Commons really.
