I'm pretty sure Commons was called up a few times but withdrew from the Scotland squad due to being "exhausted" a couple of times. This might have something to do with only having 12 caps for Scotland?

He doesn't perform for Scotland. He really should be limiting the amount of playing time to just Celtic league games and European games, he doesn't need more. He is a big lad and works hard (most of the time).

His injury today forced me, for the first time, really, to stop and think just how important his goal-scoring and creativity is to this club.

Maybe it's because Hooper is no longer here, but, man, this year I've really noticed him as THE go-to guy.

He's over 30, too. Not ancient, but he ain't young. We'll probably only get a few more years outta him, if that.

I've really grown to love the guy.

He pulled out to go on holiday.

It also doesn't help that he was * for Scotland. His performance against Belgium was ridiculous. I don't mind players having a bad game but he never tried a leg.

He's a big player for Celtic though, him not being in the Scotland squad suits both Scotland and Celtic in my opinion.

I would have to disagree, purely because Scotland don't have another player capable of producing 1 piece of magic. It was McFadden in the past but that ship has long since sailed.

Think it turned into a blessing in disguise that he missed tonights game, if he was fit Pukki probably wouldnt have played but it was Pukki and Stokes non stop shutting down of their keeper and defenders that didnt let them get a good hold of the game. Commons wouldnt have had the pace or energy for that in comparison to Pukki.

Id leave him out the starting XI for the away game as well and play Pukki again.

^I agree for the most part. I mean Pukki and Stokes' work rate tonight was out-*-standing. But saying that I feel we really lacked a creative presence in the game, and sometimes Commons is the man to provide that.

Got to disagree mate. Commons might not have the pace but his workrate off the ball in Europe can't be called into question.

Plus his creativity gets him the nod over Pukki for the time being.

I can't think of a single champions league game where he has ever played well. He's fine in the qualifiers and in the league but that's about his level imo. Simply not fast or skillful enough to play at the champions league level and the same could be said for international games.

I'd much rather have had him than Pukki, who was pretty non existant tonight

Glad he wasn't involved, to be honest. I'd keep the same team for the next game, with the possible exception of Ledley in for a striker.

Seen his stats on Wiki for Celtic just now

    121 games: 45 Goals 41 Assists

Honestly he isn't my favourite player and * me off a lot! But those stats are very * good. Maybe me and a few others on here don't appreciate him as much as we should in Scotland.

Haven't heard anyone say this guy could/should be in line for a testimonial ... yet.

Looks like the club wants to keep him long-term.

    Smart, classy player.

Give it a few more years, and I bet he'll get one ... especially with his goal-scoring record.

I was getting a bit cheesed off with him just before he scored and suddenly he was off and running again :smiley-laughing002: He's brilliant when he's on his game :celt_2:

Nobody could have imagined when we signed him he'd turn out the way he has.

If he scores 3 more goals in the next month he'll have scored 50 goals for us in under 3 years. Nobody could have predicted that.

Not including our final Champions League game next week, we've got a busy schedule in Dec. with 4 more domestic games to see out '13. Hibs and Hearts at home, and St. Johnstone and ICT away. Tricky games. Usually brings the best out of him. I bet he'll do it. :50:
