EVERY little helps for Kolo Toure. He is inspiring Sam Wardrop to dream big.

Toure’s influence off the park has been as great as that on it in his first season at Parkhead.

He has helped Brendan Rodgers’ side move to within 90 minutes of a domestic clean sweep this term and become the ideal role model for Celtic’s rising stars.

Boss Rodgers has often spoken about Toure’s influence behind the scenes at Lennoxtown and Parkhead and Under-20 skipper Wardrop has seen the former Arsenal and Liverpool star in action at close hand.

He said: “We were all having lunch in the canteen one day after training when the manager came in and said: ‘Boys, come and have a look at this.’

“As we made our way to the gym, he was telling us how Kolo is a top professional, that to get where he’s been he’s had to put in the work and that – at 35 – he’s still putting in the work.

“When we got there, Kolo was doing all these different stretching exercises and the manager stressed to us that if we want to be top players then that’s what we need to do as well.

“Kolo’s had an unbelievable career so when you see him still putting that extra session in behind closed doors it just highlights to us young players what we need to do if we’re going to achieve what he’s achieved.

“He occasionally comes over and has a look at what we do but he hasn’t taken us for training yet.”

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has hailed the influence that team-mate Kolo Toure has had on him over the course of the last year.

The 20-year-old attacker moved to Parkhead from Fulham last summer and has enjoyed an explosive first season in Glasgow, scoring 32 goals in 49 appearances to earn him a nomination for Scottish Premiership Player of the season.

He has cited the Champions League winner, a fellow new arrival, as having had a major influence on him.

“Since the first day I came here, I’ve spoken to Kolo Toure,” he told Goal. “He’s given me a lot of advice about football and what he’s achieved in his career.

“He’s like a big brother to me and I’m thankful that he’s been around.

“Everyone’s impressed me, though, it’s hard to put a finger on just one player.”

Obviously a great guy to have in the dressing room constantly reading of other players praising him for helping them. Give him a run out on Sunday and then get him signed up as a coach

Even on Friday while all the players were bouncing up and down signing with the fans he was going around them all one by one and shaking their hands and congratulating them. He's all business.

I know Brendan wants him to stay on as a coach but Kolo might want to keep on playing. Shame as he's been at massive influence at Lennoxtown and took a few training sessions with some of the youth teams.

He looks done to me, might be harsh given his lack of match sharpness, but it's probably no coincidence that Rodgers hasn't really played him since Motherwell/BMG.

Agreed. Thought he was very poor and showed his age. As you say, it could be given his lack of game time, but I think he's done.

Hopefully he sticks around as a coach though.
