It's easy enough to say that is the nature of Cup football. Any given team on any given day. But to do so would be to not be giving Killie the props they deserve here. In my preview I highlighted their defence and overall how they had improved from last season, and so it proved today. That was no fluke.

First off, credit where credit is due. Killie look a much, much tougher side this season than they were last year. McInnes has been busy, he has recruited well, improved them so much defensively, and yes they have their limitations but what they are doing is working well within those limitations. They are disciplined, structured and are working to a plan. Good for them.

They deserved that win. A 3rd consecutive clean sheet, v Sevco, Hearts and now us - says it all really.

But as for Celtic, and especially in that second half, it was woeful. Stats can be misleading but today they tell you all you need to know...

Just after halftime I noted we were at 66% possession, 6 shots, 3 on target.

At FT, the stats are 70% possession, 8 shots, 3 on target. Both of those shots came in the last 10 min when we were camped around their area and still could only manage 2 off target shots.

That is the first time BR has lost a Cup match as manager, so on the balance of things it was probably due, but that was really poor and he has to shoulder a good part of the blame for that. Possession alone is not enough, and possession without end product is most certainly not good enough.

But the players do have to shoulder their share also. BR did name probably as strong a team as he could under the circumstances (8 players out injured including CCV, Hatate, Oh, Alistair Johnston etc), but it is also alarm bells are ringing. I'm not in a position to really judge but I'm not really understanding how he is deploying Kyogo rather than having him play in behind and able to make runs which has proven so successful over the past 2 years and instead having him come back into MF at times?

Can someone explain what he is trying to achieve by doing this? Genuine question btw. What is the thinking with that?

I get there is still the process of players getting bedded in and finding their footing, but it's hard to put this on the likes of Holm, Yang (who actually seemed to do pretty well relatively speaking when he came on) or the 2 new CB's when experienced players like Taylor, Maeda and even CalMac were underwhelming to say the least.

Not an excuse. Line drawn though Celtic players shoulder and if the shoulder isn't classed as a handball then the Killie player is a mile offside.

Also Armstrong should have seen red in the phase of play just before. No excuses we were * but
    This.

    The line isn't parallel

The line goes trough a players shoulder

And if the "shirt line" isn't handball, then you can obviously score a goal with that area, yhr killie players "shirt line" is miles over the drawn line.

No excuses for the performance but yet again VAR is NOT doing its job.

Ot was 100% a penalty for the kick in Haksa, but we were NEVER getting it due to blatant cheating.

This needs calling out now as it happens pretty much every week for us whether we win or not amd it's disgraceful.

VAR was ment to be brought in to aid the refs and make their job easier and to show transparency, NOT to aid the hun refs with their corruption.

    * performance and didn't deserve anything, but questions need asking now about why ONE team is benefitting from VAR and another getting * on by it.

I agree with you 100% mate, we did not deserve to win today based on our entire play, but 3 VAR calls, all given wrong, potentially changes that.

Can handle getting beat off a motivated side in good form. Can handle the team taking time to get used to a new manager's system. Can handle new players bedding in. Can handle the fact it takes time to bring in high quality players.

But the lack of urgency and the lack of any sort of system is extremely worrying. We've been getting worse the longer the start if the season has went on, and there has to be big improvements from all involved NOW.

Was not expecting that today, even the captain was half-arsed/ball watching. Rodgers has to fix it sharpish.

Really deflated after that. Some of the football this season has been dire.

Hoping this is a wake up call to the board to get a few signings in … Greg Taylor will give me an aneurism if he’s first choice this season, he’s been miles off it and every team we’ve played so far have targeted him.

While I agree do you not think we should still have enough chances to win the game? We had hee haw. Some of that is on killies set up some of that is on Rodgers.
