Rodgers is also still trying to push through a loan deal for another ex-Celt, Kieran Tierney, from Arsenal in this January transfer window. The Scotland defender looks certain to sign a pre-contract agreement with his old club to come back permanently in the summer.

A loan switch from the Gunners this month IS still possible but Mailsport understands the potential £30million transfer of Tierney’s team-mate Oleksandr Zinchenko - to either Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund - could scupper the deal. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta doesn’t want to leave himself short of left-backs as they hunt down Liverpool in the Premier League title race

If Zinchenko goes in this window, he’ll be left with Tierney and English youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly as naturals in that position - even though the likes of Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Callafiori can fill in there. But Rodgers is hopeful that a deal can be struck for a six-month loan stint, which would see Tierney return before a Bosman move in June.

They’ve not been in a rush to let him leave, especially as Tierney has been looking to have the balance of his contract paid up so they’re not really benefitting financially.

There is not a chance on this planet KT is willing to quarter his wages to come back to Celtic but is playing hard ball about the balance of his contract at Arsenal, it makes zero logical sense.

One of the reasons, maybe not the main reason but certainly a reason, is that he’s now so well off financially that he can take that pay cut and come up the road comfortably, live his life comfortably for the rest of his days and that’s because of the contract he has at Arsenal.

He will definitely want paid up for the remainder of his contract, it’s nearly £2.5m. It will take him 2 and a half years to make that up here, if rumours of his agreed salary up here are accurate. So, yes, he will want to come up the road and his love of Celtic is probably the main reason behind that but I’ve no doubt that he’s wanting his contract paid up or a compromise from Arsenal to leave early. Wait 6 months, get £2.5m, not including any bonuses he’s receiving or loyalty bonuses he will be due at the end of his contract or come up the road and lose all that, for a quarter of the salary? There’s a reason why he’s not forcing through the move this month.

It’s really basic maths, so makes a lot of logical sense. If I had an additional £3m in the bank, I’d be far more willing to consider lowering my wage to take a job I enjoy more.

If he was about the money he’d go to Everton or West Ham or any other number of clubs down south that want him and earn 3 times as much as he would at Celtic.

He is not playing hard ball with Arsenal over money.

I'd be surprised, his studs are up and he gets the ankle. While probably harsh, I just don't see it getting overturned.

No one is suggesting he’s all about the money. This is about what he is owed from a contract. He probably won’t want it all, he probably would be quite happy to accept £1m up front and move up the road. Arsenal will rightly try and do everything they can to get out of paying him anything. Arsenal could easily turn round and say to him, on you go, we can mutually decide to end the contract early and you can go up and sign for Celtic. No player is doing that, regardless of your affection for the team you’re joining.

It’s not just him, either. There will be agents and financial experts advising him on how to play this. Believe me, if KT offered to mutually terminate his contract early, Arsenal would be all for that.. especially if it saves them £2.5m to £3m for 6 months.

He’s not ‘owed’ a bean if he doesn’t do the work to earn it.

Genuinely, what are you slabbering about? Are you saying he’s not owed anything from a mutually agreed contract with very clear terms? Genuinely confused as to what sort of weird tangent you’re going off on here.

There’s only one person going off on a tangent, if he’s not an Arsenal player for the next 6 months he’s not ‘owed’ anything.

So, going back to my original point, he’s not playing hard ball with anyone over money. Clearly.
